The authors in the book first introduce the reader to philosophical debates about the issue presented in the early periods. They also introduce the reader to recent research about human perception, learning, and decision making. They provide the findings of the research to the reader so as to help him in understanding. The authors have indicated the difficulties encountered, and support argument that the systems provide. The main disadvantage of the artificial intelligence systems is that it produces decisions that are inferior to those of experienced human experts (Dreyfus, Dreyfus & Anthanasiou, 2000).

The author has begun his work by comparing ideas provided by other writers like George Orwell, and Aldous Huxley (Postman, 2006). I think the book the amusing ourselves to death public discourse in the ages of show business by Neil postman is expressing the influence television has in the culture of a society, and the education as this is common in the modern society. The author has begun his work by explaining the different views other authors have about technology like television. Most of the authors do not appreciate the change brought by technology. The author shows how the authors predicted negative effects brought by technology (Postman, 2006).
The two books are similar in some way. They are similar in the theme, and they also show criticism presented by different authors about technology. That is the introduction of television in communication. The author in his book criticizes television as it has brought negative effects to the society. In the book the author describe how technology has eroded culture in the society. Television has replaced the original culture in the society, and brought a modern society. The modern society has different culture and lifestyle (Postman, 2006). Television has affected the morals, and norms of the society. It has made people to be lazy, and reluctant. People are only fed with information from television channels, but they can not reason for themselves. The author has used an example of school children to shows the effects of culture. School children in the modern society do not have time to do home work, but only to watch television. This shows the negative effects television has on education system .Television has also influenced media industry, and political system (Postman, 2006). This is because in media industry, companies treat audience as a market for their products.
The media develops products, and market them to the audience without analyzing the effects. It has also affected the political system in that, politicians do not make their own decision, but the media delivers the content it has customized. Thus, the decisions made a poor. The book describes the views presented by different advocates over the system. The advocates view technology useless as it does not support reasoning, and moral values. The artificial intelligence system is developed to help in carrying out human activities, but the advocates do not support the idea. The authors have described the limitations of the artificial intelligence system. Artificial intelligence systems produce decisions that are inferior to decisions made by human beings (Postman, 2006). Thus, it is not ideal for improving decision making in work place. The advocates argue that human decisions are better in an organization than decisions made by a machine.

The authors of the two books have used examples and illustrations to convey their message. This is to make it clear to the reader on how technology affects the society. The authors have also organized the content in the books well. The content is arranged in a way that allows the reader to understand the content (Postman, 2006).
