My Ultimate Dream Come True

Since my late childhood I have always wanted to be a commercial airline pilot. At the age of 17 years, as a junior in high school, I received my private pilot license. This marked the beginning of my pilot career. I later joined EmbryRiddleAeronauticalUniversity to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical science. At Embry Riddle I started my four year training journey which culminated when I received my Seaplane rating. I was later on accepted into the Mesa Airlines Pilot Development program at San JuanCollege. I graduated from the PACE program and was hired by Mesa Air Group until present. My goal is to get hired by Delta Air Lines as a first officer.Throughout the last few years of being a commercial airline pilot I have realized that in order to do this job, I have to do it well and love it.

I have heard that every pilot must endure approximately 3-4 furloughs throughout their career. I am currently experiencing number 1. I just flew for a regional airline for 3 years. Looking back on my life I can’t believe that I have accomplished so much but there is always more to dream about. I have been based in Orlando and Cincinnati and I have flown frequent in and out of many of the major hubs on the east coast including JFK, ATL and DTW. Through my experiences at Mesa Air Group I am now familiar with flying into all sizes of airports, in different weather conditions and working with different captains.

Becoming a commercial airline pilot for a big carrier is my ultimate goal. Flying airplanes every day, getting people home or to see family or whatever their plans are, was always my dream. Maybe the company I worked for was not the greatest but I have gotten so much experience. It doesn’t change the fact that I love to fly. I would never go and do anything else. In five years to come I would like to see my self flying as a captain in Delta Airline. I feel that working a large carrier like Delta will explore my full capacity to my betterment and also to the good of the industry.  I have a passion for the aviation industry and I would love to make significant contribution to its development. My current position as a first officer at Mesa Group is not stable and does not provide enough to enable me to live the desired lifestyle and contribute to the industry as much as I feel I should. Getting the scholarship will increase my aviation skills and knowledge which will enable me to get hired by a major airline. It is my personal ambition that through my career as a pilot I will be able to provide a lifestyle that is comfortable and stable for me and my family. This would be made possible if I win the scholarship.

Being from a humble background I have had to rely on scholarships and grants to get this far in my career. After senior high school I was able to obtain the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Grant which sponsored my university education. Being accepted into the Mesa airline pilot program was another shot in the arm for my career as I was able to advance my skills and experiences. I would need the help of this scholarship in order to move a step further in improving my self and the aviation industry in general. While attending Embry Riddle, beside flying, attending classes and working, I also played on the Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Team. I received a soccer scholarship and was one of the founders of the Women’s Soccer Club. It was a privilege to be able to work with others and build such a great program. I was also actively involved in the “Women in Aviation” organization activities.  I have a strong work ethic and I am extremely motivated to accomplish my goals and dreams.
