The Study of Administration

Main idea of the study

Table of Contents

The study looks at the administrative aspect of politics and governance as it is taught in schools, in addition to, the society’s expectations of the political administrator. The article also gives an overview of the political administration as a career from the days when politics was elaborate to the complex political careers of today that encompasses a wide variety of fields. Industrialization, as well as, civilization has been credited as the key causes of the complex political administration which has led to emergence of the science of politics.

To achieve the required political administration setting, the students who are studying political science should be able to relate the early administrative policies and those of today as a way of establishing what is expected of them in the field. Lastly the article looks at ways through which the governments which are within the national government can incorporate public interest as the most vital role in their responsibilities to carry out effective political administration (Woodrow, 1887).

Points used to support the main idea

When providing support for the political science theory learnt in class, the author uses theoretical political science studies to understand the nature of efficiency in administration which can be attained by attending appropriate lessons. Similarly, the students who are in political science classes can incorporate theory into practical cases to figure out the best administrative strategies for certain real life scenarios (Woodrow, 1887).

The evolution of political administration is depicted as having taken place by comparing the nature of political administrative duties in the early days when simpler financial and leadership roles were evident. However, with industrialization more money, advanced technology and politicians with selfish interests made the whole political scene a field for the strong willed. In determining the ability of a government office to put public interest before their own selfish gains, the process of executing the powers is outlined for severing and monarchy political administrations to carry out their dutiful roles (Woodrow, 1887).

How the article compares with readings in other books

The ideas in the article are similar to those of the book; Public Health Administration: Principles of Population-Based Management, by Novick, Mays and Morrow (2007), which refers to administration in the healthcare industry as a complex institution. However, the authors call for adequate learning of the public health theories to enable them engage in quality administrative duties. Similarly, the complex evolution of the public health care industry has changed in the same way as the political administration field. Consequently, in both scenes, the role of public administrative studies plays a vital role in enhancing sufficient delivery of the needs of the people who are being served (Novick, 2007).

Critique of the article

One of the relevant strengths of the article is the clear indication that for a public administrator to execute their duties effectively, a link has to be created between theoretical public administration and practical real life scenarios.  The lesson taught by the article is that regardless of the demanding role of a public administrator, the main role is serving the public. The other implication is on the rapidly changing field of public administration hence the need to keep updating ones academic levels (Woodrow, 1887).
