How effective is sustainable procurement in the UK and EU countries?
Sustainable procurement can be defined as all issues regarding policy through procurement. Public procurement strives to help to achieve all objectives of a given policy. This paper will analyze the effectiveness of sustainable procurement in the UK and EU countries.
Literature Review
Farnworth and Mike, (2009) argued that sustainable procurement in the UK is consistent with regard to the procurement rules set by the EU and this consistency enhances the effectiveness of sustainable procurement. Erridge, Ruth and John (2009) have also demonstrated that every department has a lead policy that function s or aims to achieve the set objectives using effective ways. An example is the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs whose role is to promote green issues (Great Britain: Department for Environment, Food and Rural affairs, 2005).
Research Aims and objectives
The aim of conducting the research is to determine or identify the various ways through which procurement in the UK and EU can be more effective. Research also aims at finding out the level of effectiveness of the UK and EU countries.
Background knowledge
It is evident that the UK and EU countries often seek guidance from Office of Government Commerce (OGC). This has made procurement more effective since OGC Functions has an advisory role and hence advices the countries on the way forward to achieving an effective procurement.
Research design
The research design is the use of questionnaires which will show the response of different individuals working in the procurement section of the EU offices. The method of completion will be via telephone.
Risk management
Successful completion of the research project will depend on the availability of the target respondents. The alternative method which will be used as strategy to deal with absence of respondents is to conduct a survey. Data will be analyzed through the various responses given by use of graphs. The sample size to be used is 50 individuals who will be issued questionnaires.
