The National Guidance Research Forum website presents the topic on multicultural counseling. according to NGRF, clients from ethnic minority groups are least likely to seek services of counseling. This is because of the ethnocentric activities seen in the values of white middle class. The web examines the theory of multicultural models, definitions, and implications that guidance practitioners have to consider. The theory of multicultural therapy and counseling calls for counseling practitioners to acknowledge that each of their client is unique and each person differences should be respected and accepted. A consulting practitioners should also appreciate the fact that cultural and family matters affects how the client views the world. Third aspect is that theoricians , researchers and counseling practitioners should pay attention to cultural and family concerns in rethinking the meaning of counseling.
This will therefore call for a culturally skilled councilor to be aware of ones own assumptions, develop and appreciate intervention techniques and strategy and to understand the world view of the culturally different persons (NGRF, 2004). The web describes multiculturalism as the fourth force of psychology which complements behavioral, humanistic explanations and psychodynamics of human behavior. According to Eric digest a number of genetic characteristics of the counselor are required to deal with cultural aspects touching on feminist and masculinity, individualism, uncertainty avoidance and power distance. These aspects are expression of respect to a clients which will make them feel understood, felt and acceptable manner, express empathy to culturally different clients, personalize his or her observation, tolerate ambiguity , without judgment and to persevere and be patient (Eric Digest ,1993)
