Research Study Critique.
Introduction
The research under critique was conducted in Turkey. The goal of the research was to establish the effects of antenatal education on prenatal and postpartum adaptation in Turkish women.The researchers (Serc¸ekus¸& Mete, 2010) have clearly laid out the problem in this study. This is because they have outlined what is known as per the moment about the problem and what may not still be clear at the moment. The problem identified was the lack of substantial evidence to substantiate what previous studies had researched especially in the view of a Turkish context. However, a closer look reveals that the purpose and problem may not be fitting. The purpose was to establish evidence that would credit or discredit the fact that antenatal education affected prenatal and postpartum adaptation. Whereas; the problem was the lack of evidence in the Turkish context that could prove a positive relation between the two factors as well as define the best mode of education delivery-in groups or personal basis.
This research is put in a theoretical background derived from Gagnon and Sandall (2007). This due to the fact that the research was prompted by lack of evidence in earlier documented researches that would substantiate the hypotheses drawn for this research according Gagnon and Sandall (2007). The research’s theoretical background as well as references are based on literature that is within the range of the past ten years This is an indication that what is being studied and referenced may indeed be relevant to the research’s context. However, it is also noted that there is referenced material from the 90’s and 80’s which probably formed the developmental basis for this research. The study has actually taken into consideration all factors that could help enhance accuracy. Therefore, the results could be easily replicated to determine the state of a similar situation elsewhere. The design was equally appropriate because it had a control group and the chosen subjects consented freely to engage in the study. The subjects were however, chosen from the same demographical set up based in a town. This may make the infered result inconsistent with what may be infered in other places such as rural turkey. This does not offer the element of randomization in sampling (Shuttleworth, 2008). However, the subject selection was okey because they were darawn from a varying population in terms of age, income, employment and marital status. The insturments used The major used research insturments were the questionnaire and interviews. The power of the study was 0.92 (alpha = 0.05, assumed SDSD = 16.1, assumed mean differences = 13.6, effect size = 0 Data collection 0.37). These were the standards upon which accuracy was based. They enhance the credibility of data by taking into account the situational differences in each experiment or research (Huberman & Miles,1994).
