“The element” by Robinson, K. & Aronica, L. and “Crush it” by Vaynerchuk, G.
In his book “Crush it: why now is the time to cash in on your passion,” Vaynerchuk shows that the internet has the power to help people transform the interests that they have into business. This implies that through the internet, entrepreneurial prowess can come up. This is like a manual that drives people into the modern world of business. In this book, the writer uses his personal experience to show the reader that the internet is a powerful tool. He has used social media for example facebook and twitter to make promotions on his business.
Today, many people regardless of their age use social networks simply to make fun and as a way of relaxing. What they have not yet realized is that these media are a business opportunity. This is what Vaynerchuk in his book tries to bring forth to the people. He gives lessons to the readers. It is also a motivating tool for people to pursue their passions. People have different ideas and hobbies but they still find themselves in jobs that they are not zealous about. The book gives people the encouragement and guidelines on how to make business out of ones hobbies and ideas. These ideas and passionate activities are simply business opportunities.
The book “The element” shows the connection between talent, passion and success. In this book, the writers used people who have had great accomplishments in their life to show just how passion is important. An example of these people is Arianna Huffington who is a writer.
The connection that is brought out in these two books is the use of real life experiences to offer lessons to the reader and showing how fulfilling it can be to follow talent and passion. Just like in “The Crush!” by giving the real stories of people who have become successful, Robinson is offering the reader lessons. Furthermore, these are stories of success accompanied by personal fulfillment. This shows that there is fulfillment in following ones passion as well as talent.
Further, the title of the book, the element is symbolic. It is the point at which passion and talent meet. The writer makes an analysis of the circumstances that make it possible for people to get to the element and those ones which suppress such possibilities. Though people have different talents, what most fail to do is to transform these into creative and innovative ideas. The problem as the writer cites is that even right from the beginning is that most people do not even know their real selves. This implies that in life, most of the people never get to have a connection with their talents. Therefore, these people will not know what their real capabilities are. This is just the same aspect that Vaynerchuk uses in citing that people will find themselves doing what does not fulfill their passion. This is a clear implication that they have not realized what they are capable of.
In both books, it is evident that though there are various barriers in life, there are other aspects that may be considered as barriers but are not. According to Robinson & Aronica (2009) ones occupation as well as their age is not a barrier. Both books show that passion is the strategy that should be used in the transformation of business and education in this century. It is important to be committed to ones capabilities in order to have great accomplishments. The books show that there are diverse passions and capabilities for instance, intelligence is diverse. Further, the power to transform imaginations into creative thoughts is also diverse.
It is clear that both “The element” and “Crush it” are about making a reality out of ones dreams and talent. The value of both books is immense to leaders and educators. These incite people to have different thoughts and the need for people to nurture as well as develop on their passion. It is through this way that innovation sets in into the world making living more interesting.
Vaynerchuk goes further to explain what in addition to passion will make business achieve success. An example of this is the utilization of the free tools that are available on the internet to get the most out of business. There are various themes in this book. These include becoming an expert in what you take passion in, using the internet and social media for the promotion of oneself or their brand. Vaynerchuk in his book tells that the first treasure that people find in the wisdom of marketing is taking what ones loves as a tool for the development of business. This will then involve taking the necessary education on ones passion. This book can be used as a tool for teaching in schools. For instance, children are talented in various ways and they will have passion for various activities. This can be used to help them build on their passion right from an early age.
Once one has passion in something, as Vaynerchuk cites, they should find other people who have expertise in their area of passion. This way, they will learn and get a chance to also voice out their opinions. Today, there are people who work as consultants in various fields. This can be achieved on focusing on ones passions and once they have gained the expertise, as Vaynerchuk puts it, they should sell their ideas to other people.
It is not just enough to have an idea, develop it into business and operate without marketing oneself and their business. Vaynerchuk dedicates marketing to the use of the internet which include the various social networks that are available. The loyalty of a brand is brought about by its “fans and followers” (Vaynerchuk, 2009). Furthermore, there are other large industries that are contributors to these networks and marketing through them will earn one a lot of business. In the world today, various companies are making use of these social networks to carry out research and communicate with their customers.
Online marketing is very powerful. Another value in marketing that is discussed in this book is differentiation. Since internet marketing is widely used, one has to be able to stand out that is to differentiate their business from others. This is where hard work comes in as well as patience. It is essential that business care for their customers; it’s a way of maintaining touch with one’s customers. Customers want to be connected to the products they purchase and the services that they are offered. The book offers great lessons for modern businesses.
