THE CONTROL MANAGEMENT

Henry Termeer as the CEO of Genzyme needs to also apply the concept of control as one way to overcome the debilitating manufacturing contamination that it experienced in the company. The Viral contamination at Genzyme would have been prevented in the management were really in control of the company activities. Having admitted knowledge that the company’s equipment was out of date, it is wrong that they did not control the occurrence of contamination in the equipment. This is to say that as per the production standards the company’s facilities were below standards.

Control in the management of manufacturing and production industries refer to three main issues. The first is the management’s ability to detect situations that may result to problems in the final output of the company. The management should be in a position to identify situations that may interfere with the smooth functioning of the manufacture and the productions process of the company (Jones, & George, 2011). Since the company aims at producing high quality products, it should be able to initiate preventive measures that will prevent manufacture of contaminated substandard products. The management can also have the concurrent control in which they can effectively resolve problem that arise without negatively impacting on the financial and image aspects of the company. The feedback control is the final form of control that the management of Genzyme can apply. The company should be able to effectively establish workable measures that can be affected in case a problematic issue arises from the manufacture and sale of the product. The company should be in a position to effectively apply damage-control strategies to avoid further destruction to the company’s image (Bissoondoyal, 2006).

Genzyme, aware that they deal with drugs that are consumed by the greater public should have been keen on the eventuality of contamination since the effects of viral contamination can be adverse to the populace that depends on these drugs
