Am applying to law school, but my GPA at the undergraduate level was not good. This is because of various reasons. First, I started of badly during the first years of undergraduate level and improved as time went on. I was not used to undergraduate studies and I had difficulties in first year courses. I had difficulties in reading and writing as English was my second language. Most courses in the university were taught in English and I could not understand well like other students. I had to learn English and attend classes at the same time. This took long and affected my performance for the first two years. In my third year, I was able to read and write in English and this helped me improve my performance. In third I had a GPA of 3.06.Another factor that contributed to performance in my undergraduate studies was financial problems. I had difficulties in paying school fees for the first three years as my family was not well off. This influenced my performance as I was in the deans list more than twice because of poor performance.
Further, the learning environment was not conducive for learning. The institutions did not have good programs to support students in their studies. For example, students did not get assistance in their research work. Also, students were not able to relate theory and practice. This had adverse effects on my studies. I found it hard to comprehend what was being taught. Currently, am a graduate student and my GPA is 3.3. My performance has improved as I have adapted to the teaching methods in the institutions. I have also managed to pay my school fees.
