Table of Contents

Introduction

The American dream became entrenched at a time when a big number of settlers were living Europe as a result of the monarchy which was good at the middle class suppression. This was during the west movement time. In this text, I will discuss boy willies vision of the American dream and compare it with any other perspective encountered this term.

The American dream

Death of a salesman, a masterpiece by Arthur Miller portrays Willy Lowman, the main character as a salesman on a journey and whose life is mainly informed by his dream pursuits. The traveling salesman can be taken to be the American society metaphor. Easy wealth as well as success are the main things that Willy peruses and this seems to eventually betray his life. The American dream in this case is depicted by Willy’s measure of both his and his son’s success in terms of popularity and/or materialism (Abbotson 2005).

This in one way or the other can be taken to be what eventually leads him to fall victim to a society obsessed with materialism. Willy’s disillusionment is as a result of his failure to accomplish goals dictated by the society. His desire for success is legendry and that informs his belief that a failure is better dead than alive. Dreams of improving his life are evident throughout Willy’s life till the day he meets his death.

Conclusion

The American dream which can be regarded as a myth gives a promise of availing the resources as well as opportunities necessary to accumulate wealth even for those without anything in the United States of America.
