Introduction
Technology system refers to the material object for use by human like hardware and machines. It encompasses broader themes that include techniques, systems, and methods of organization. Technology is a key player in today’s market as it helps businesses in staying profitable. It is necessary for business to invest in technology research so that they can get ways of being more efficient and better competitors. The organization that I have chosen for this paper is the healthcare organization, which has significantly focused on implementing technology system into the organization.

The technology system that this organization has implemented is the Electronic Medical records. The EMR system enables intuitive and seamless way of collaborating, connecting, and informing across the health care system (Skolnik 2010). It enables people to receive the right information at the right time in order to take informed action. This paper will discuss the technology system in a health care organization.

Electronic medical Records
Electronic medical record (EMR) is a technology stem used in health care organization as a solution for enhancing automation, increase collaboration, improving availability of patient information, and simplify the integration of the automation tools of health care. The reason as to why the organization decided to implement EMR is to put an end to paper based transactions.  Because of the challenge of paper based transaction, it affects the health care professional’s ability of providing efficient services to clients. This technology system makes it easy for nurses, physicians, and all health care staffs to access and share information quickly and smoothly. There are several solutions that EMR system offers the organization.

With this system, the organization can deliver to its client’s high quality of care with the original information and collaboration between clinics (Skolnik, N 2010). This has helped in improving chronic care management and patient satisfaction. It has also reduced read mission rates. Another advantage that then system has offer the organization is saving money through deployment of widely used commercial off the shelf platforms. EMR has improved productivity and collaboration through streamlining day to day patient and citizen care and activities in clinical administrative.

With the system in the organization, it has helped in improving health care quality. It has connected the organization so that every health care professional have knowledge and information that they need in doing their job. The system is of help to many as the clients can receive knowledge that they need effectively to participate in the care that they receive. With the EMR technology system within the organization, it has helped in improving and expanding programs (Scott et al 2007). The preventive and disease management got improved and expanded through communication and automation tools. The programs that improved are like chronic condition management program such as diabetes education and outreach.

EMR has helped in improving collaboration between the patients, providers, and health care professionals. With this technology, the organization can enhance outreach and education programs, which helps in promoting preventive care and improving efficiency (Carter 2001). Workflow in the organization got enhanced and also data consolidation, availability, and visualization. The quality and efficiency of care also improved, and patient satisfaction has also improved.

Timeline for EMR Implementation
This is the process that the organization went through when deciding to change their practice from paper based to paperless. The health care organization had first to evaluate the technology system that would help them in achieving their goal, which was going paperless.
October 1997started evaluating the EMR system
October 2000chose the EMR system
April 2001the organization signed a contract with the EMR vendor
It also assembled a team for project implementation

July 2001an odd site test system was set up of the work station, server, scanner, and printer
August 2001conducted training on initial basic skills assessment.
September 2001the test system, moved to the practice side
Installed the system everywhere
Conducted basic skills training
November 2001loaded 4 months of recent progress notes into the system
EMR went live

January 2002noticed a decrease in the use of transcription
Most providers in the organization went home late than usual because of the additional entry of data
April 2002most providers were now leaving the office at their normal time
January 2003paper work transactions totally avoided

After the implementation of the system in the organization, patients appear to be extremely satisfied and enjoying the services that they receive from the providers. Almost all patients recommend the hospital for the implementation of the system. They now spend fewer hours making payments and waiting for their records to be presented to them. Since the goal of the organization was to go paperless, it had to make sure that the software that was to be used had all the tools needed to accomplish the goal.

One of the biggest challenges that the organization had been facing for the past years was dealing with paper work. There are many patients who visit the organization, which means more patient related documents. After the implementation of the system, it helped in management of the patient’s document, the test results, and other information that flowed daily in the office.

Effects of technology system on information technology management and knowledge workers

The knowledge workers are normally the core of the organization. Their experiences, interpretation, judgments, and ideas might be what keep the business moving forward. Knowledge workers are able to develop new strategies, invent new products, lead in negotiations, and help in keeping the organization ahead of competitors. The evolution of the technology systems has an effect on knowledge workers and also the information technology management. Knowledge worker in the organization supposed to be always interested in finding, memorizing, and applying the information in their work. With the evolution of technology, it is calling for the knowledge workers continuously to change the means in which they use in accomplishing their work.

Information technology management is the discipline where all the technology sources of an organization are managed according to their needs and priorities. With the evolution of technology, the information technology management supposed to change with the same or a higher rate in which the technology is changing. The knowledge workers supposed to maintain the desire of applying their talents towards incorporating new technology and information in their work. With the evolution of technology system, organization requires to have workers who are highly skilled and have specialized information. This helps the knowledge workers to apply their knowledge in the evolving technology system.
