How Risk Impacted On A Charity Project
In one of the charity project that I was a member, I saw how a risk had an impact on the project and the Trustees. The risk resulted from lack of a standard governing document and lack of a suitable model that would help guide the project members on the provisions expected of the Trustees. The lack of a governing documents leads to disagreements between the project leaders and the trustees mainly in the area of power and decision making. The trustees were against the group leader’s power in making decisions and implementing their thoughts. The trustees, on the other hand, thought that the role of decision making was theirs. Therefore, the reason behind the conflict was the lack of well set rules to guide project leaders and members.
The disagreement would have an impact to the success of the project especially when the issues remain unresolved. Another conflict that arose was among the project trustees, who did not have a clear cut role and authority. This was due to lack of governing documents that would show the roles of the trustees. These issues were resolved by an appointed charity commission that saw the need to establish a functional and updated governing document to show the provisions and rules to be followed by the trustees and the project members. The risks experienced during this project played a major role in the way decisions were made to deal with the risks.
The members, as well as, the trustees learned that it was important to have clear governing rules that will help in reaching the goals and objectives of the project. They learned that, at the onset of a project, a forecast of risks should be done in order to prevent possible risk, role definition, and clarity would have been done at the onset of the project. We saw that it was important for the trustees and project leaders to develop risk policy strategies, as well as, strategies for risk identification. Assessment and risk mitigation approaches in order to deal with future risks facing the charity organization.
