Character Comparison
Similarities
Connie is a character in “Where are you going, where have you been” who is rejecting the role of a sister, daughter, and a nice girl so that cultivate her sexual persona. Connie is a character who is found to be in constant conflict with her family. My cousin is a teenage girl who posses almost same characters as Connie. Connie is a character who always wants to live her life. She hates it when people come in her life and start dictating what she is supposed to do. This is the same case with Connie all her concerns are related to adolescent. Connie is a character who is obsessed, with her looks; she flirts with boys, love listening to, music, and hanging out with friends (Oates, J & Schowalter, E 2002). One similarity between my cousin and Connie is that they love it when they know that boys and men find them attractive. This is what motivates them to doing what they do. They usually do anything that will, make them look beautiful in front of men.
These two characters have a particular mode of dressing, walking style and laughing that has a sexual appeal. My cousin will always make sure that she does something that will make men look at her and leave them gazing. She loves it a lot when she knows that men are talking about her in a positive manner. Connie and my cousin some characters even when they are at home. When my cousin is at school, she behaves in a manner that is quite different from when she is at home. When my cousin is at home, she has to prove to her parents of her good behavior as her parents might scold her for her bad behavior.
Difference
The difference between the two characters is that my cousin’s parents are extremely strict. The parents follow a strong religious background; therefore, they have to ensure that their children behave properly. Therefore, in order to please her parents, she has to put on a different person. My cousin is mature enough to know what is wrong and right for her; however, she has always loved associating with boys and wanting to appear attractive. She has a limit that she cannot go beyond when it comes to engaging with people in her life. On the other hand, Connie is not mature enough as she would love. She is desperate of wanting to appear attractive to older men, but when an older man shows her explicit sexual attention she tends to be terrified.
Connie is terrified when Arnold who is an older man pays her clear sexual attention. There is extremely little that Connie knows about reality or what adulthood entails. Despite trying hard to control herself from men, she ends up being overpowered by men. This occurs in the story when she tries to appear controlled, but she ends up being overpowered by Arnold (Oates, J & Schowalter, E 2002). This is different in the case of my cousin. She knows how to control her feelings, and there is no situation that she has found herself not able to handle. She knows how to deal with the men that she flirts with. It goes no further than just flirting. This is because she fears of the consequences if her parents get to know her behavior. These are two characters who share some similarities, but they are also different.
