Writing an essay is hectic as one faces numerous challenges that affect the quality of the essay. The challenges include supporting arguments, grammar and choice of words. The essay subject differs from one writer to another. When writing an essay one should focus on the topic and ensure the content of the essay is coherent. It is important to provide specific examples when writing an essay. The examples provided come from different sources and depend on the topic selected. Providing examples is important when writing a good essay as it ensures the writer supports his or her claim. In addition, providing examples ensures the reader understands the argument of the writer. One should only use the example if it is relevant to the topic being addressed. Writers should use examples not relevant to the topic as the examples affect the quality of the essay. They also make it difficult for the reader to understand the content (McLaren 2004).
Moreover, one should ensure the essay is grammatically correct by using correct grammar. The importance of grammar is evidenced in the construction of sentences. How one constructs sentences when writing influences how the readers read and comprehends the essay. It influences how readers read sentences and comprehend them. Word usage affects the quality of essay and readability. Essay words communicate perfectly what one wants to express in his or her essay. In order to write a good essay, one should use words perfect for connecting ideas and guiding the reader towards the right direction of reasoning (Levin 2009). Essay words create more emphasis and introduce a different perspective. Only words used in formal writing or academic writing should be used to ensure the reader comprehends the essay. One should avoid using jargon and informal words when writing an essay as it creates confusion and affects the message being conveyed. Words have a different meaning in different contexts, and hence one should use the right words (Maples & Redman 2011).
Additionally, one should select the appropriate verbs when writing an essay. Using correct verbs improves the readability of the essay. The most common mistakes writers make is depending a lot on the verb “to be”. It is the most common verb in English language and writers find themselves using the verb in almost each sentence. However, “to be” is considered the weakest verb in English and affects the essay quality. Therefore, writers should choose the right verb when writing essays to ensure the essay is grammatical correct. The writer should identify the subject of the sentence in order to avoid using the verb “to be” (Warburton 2006).
I can pass this class and go to the next level because of good essay. I am able to write a good essay based on my excellent grammar and use of a specific example. As a writer, am able to use correct verb form and use words appropriate for my audience and topic. In addition to that, I am able to use a specific example when writing essays to support my argument and convey the message to the audience. The examples I use depend on the topic I am discussing and the target audience. Therefore, I am able to write a good essay that has no grammatical errors and uses suitable examples (Lockhart 2008).
