Voter apathy is a circumstance that prevails with voters that they can not do much to influence change and hence they hold back from voting. This is detrimental attitude because it is the conglomerate of all the votes cast that determines the winning candidates, when many voters fail to vote; a candidate whose influence does not warrant a win may take the seat. If I had all the resources to reverse this trend, I would carry out substantive campaigns at the local level.
Voter apathy usually occurs in the local areas where voters may be deluded due to inadequate knowledge. I would carry out campaigns with personal appeal where I would organize campaign rallies and attend in person, to give speeches. In these speeches, I would elucidate on the detriments of voter apathy to a free democracy. I would tell the voters that failing to vote is like robbing themselves of their own democracy. I would also inform them the considerable role they should play in the election process, to elect their leaders. Failing to vote amounts to giving away political sits to candidates in which they have low interest.
I would organize performances by artists’ celebrities in which events they will preach the gospel of the relevance of voting. I would also print T-shirts with writings and graphics emphasizing on the relevance of each vote cast in the electioneering process. It may be difficult ton reach nationwide and across the state. At this level, I would carry out campaigns through the mass media. I would pay for considerable airtime in radio and television stations; all the messages on the stations will be on the relevance of voting. I would use famous personnel to increase the appeal of the message I will be sending. I would install billboards in the large cities so that those who can not access to radios or television can get the message from the billboards.
