The Health Level Seven (HL7) foundations began in 1987 aiming to offer a standard for hospice data systems. HL7 is one of America’s standard organizations that got endorsed in 1994 by the American National Standards Organization (ANSO). Furthermore, HL7 got also accredited by standards developing organizations (SDOs); hence getting permission to operate in the healthcare realm. Health Level Seven’s area of specialization and dominance is on administrative information and clinical data. Furthermore, Health Level Seven international provides international healthcare standards in many countries around the world. As if not enough, HL7 also provides; sharing, integration, and information recovery in healthcare systems.
The healthcare system in Bermuda is associating with award winning clinics such as Lahey Clinic (from Burlington, Massachusetts) in improving services. This collaboration with other health clinics, have benefited Bermuda healthcare system operations, because various community projects have been established. However, according to the government reports on Royal gazettes online new (2012) Bermudas growing health care are crisis. The reports indicated the healthcare premiums 16. 9% increment in the current year. In addition, Bermuda’s healthcare industry is going through drastic review and change. The escalating costs have been followed by the continued increase of healthcare premiums.
The initiative taken by Regional Health information Organization (RHIO) presents a firm bases for standardized data sharing. This information system performance is a brilliant indicator of regional integration leading to regional technological system developments. Through sharing, the accredited data within national parameters promotes better health decision making. Various organizations should participate in this initiative, since it is focused on future health care development enhancement. As is not enough, the organization which will agree to participate, will share in the benefits embedded in these systems. This integration should also be open to international communities; hence promoting globalization development.
