Quantitative And Qualitative Approaches
Quantitative And Qualitative Approaches
It would be inaccurate to state that quantitative research approach is superior to qualitative research, as it is more scientific than qualitative research. The correct position would be to view the two approaches as different rather than one being superior to the other. This is because while using the two approaches, researchers have different intentions. The use of any of the approaches is with the purpose of achieving certain results. For instance, while using the quantitative approach, a researcher would have an interest in testing theory. This is different from a research that makes use of the qualitative approach, as such as researcher would have an interest in attaining the meaning of a trend or an observable fact. Quantitative research serves best when researchers use it to gain comprehension from a scientific approach. On the other hand, a qualitative research would be most appropriate when for gaining comprehension from an art perspective.
The two approaches are useful for various purposes. Quantitative research makes it possible for there to be feedback from numerous individuals relating to a narrow scope of questions. This, consequently, makes it possible for there to generalization of results. On the other hand, qualitative research provides detail data from a small number of individuals. With regard to quantitative approach, researchers operate deductively and have an orientation to the results. Conversely, researchers who make use of qualitative approach encompass a focus of identifying and documenting patterns and views that are either consistent or inconsistent. Creswell, J. (2003).With this analysis, it would not be appropriate to state that quantitative approach is superior to qualitative approach. This is because the two do not serve the same purpose and have different platforms.
