Individualized Services For Persons With Alcohol And Drug Problems
Individuals with alcohol and drug problems vary with regard to the condition that they have. Different persons have addictions to different substances and are all at different levels of addiction. As a practitioner in substance abuse and treatment, it is, therefore, essential to provide individualized services. The provision of these services should be according to the individual’s substance abuse. To be able to provide individualized services, a practitioner should involve the substance abusers in various programs. Potenza MN. (2006).
Such programs include offering multiple levels of care, as well as comprehensive service packages to individuals. Individualized programs that would enable persons with substance abuse include; individuals and group counsel and family counseling. Tavares (2007). Education with regard to substance abuse, partaking in self aid groups and other structured, therapeutic procedures. Individualized programs can also include participation of the family members in individual and group codependency counseling. It can also include provision of detoxification and residential, support services. This occurs to persons who need a safe drug free environment in the early stages of the treatment process.
Women and children are a group which substance abuse affects in unique ways, both psychologically and physically. It is, therefore, essential to provide individualized services designed for women and their children. Bloom (1998). There should be provision of priority for women who are expectant, postpartum or have kids in their custody and physical care. There should be provision services on the basis of assessed needs. Such services may include housing support and community hold up for children who come with their mothers to treatment and daycare. Bride (2001). Such individualized programs can aid substance abusers who have different treatment requirements.
