Argumentative Essay on Gun Control

There is need to have strict laws to control guns because their availability in the market has been a concern in many nations today. Many people die every die world wide every year due to cases related to gun mishandling among the citizens. In countries where there are strict laws to control the availability and possession of gun there are few cases of deaths from guns.(Nesbet, 2001)

Many countries have taken drastic measures to control the guns; for instance they only allow security to be provided by bare arms which is safer due to the misuse of guns which has been experienced amongst many people who own guns lawfully but end up misusing them and causing unwarranted arm to innocent people. The stricter the laws, the less the gun related deaths are observed. If other countries could adopt the strict laws then the gun cases will also drop significantly.

In this speech almost 350 years ago Winthrop addressed the dilemma of gun control in his speech where asked the point where the rights of people begin and then the eventual beginning of the authority of the law enforcers like the magistrates. Winthrop viewed people to be naturally evil. He said that if people are left to manage armful devices within their reach the situations will most likely worsen. This necessitates the need to have an authority that governs the way people live and operate. This principle holds equally in the control of guns. In US for instance people have the right to possess arms; however such possession goes hand in hand with some sort of responsibility. This means that although in possession of a gun, citizens are not allowed to shoot anyone or anything at their own will. The government is obliged to create laws that that protect the rights of other people. (Nesbet, 2001)

It is necessary on my point of view to have gun control laws that are stricter and there should be provision of education of the way guns are to be used. In United States the citizens are not rigidly regulated by the laws on guns as compared to their counterparts in the European countries. In United States it takes just a few days to weeks for someone to acquire a permit on the carriage of guns. However many crimes committed by hand guns the guns are not licensed. Better and advanced authority should be put in place to control the handling of guns illegally. In England guns permitted for hunting are required to be signed out, then the purpose of the gun should be stated and then the type of the gun issued should also be stated.

Proper education should be given to those individuals who wish to get license for acquiring of guns. They should be trained on how to clean it, use it and the general handling of the fire arm. This helps in the prevention of accidental shooting occurrence. Laws regarding the handling of firearms should be made clear to them. This may sound to be too harsh to them but remember that it the leniency in the laws that has caused more arm to the innocent citizens.

In these controversial laws it is my suggestion that all countries have stricter laws governing the obtaining of guns. If a criminal is charged with a case relating to gun, they should not be in a position to purchase a gun. If a normal human being wants to purchase a gun they should have their background checked thoroughly. They should also be subjected to a course which they must pass so as to prove that they have the capacity to use the equipment which is dangerous and if misused can cause arm.

Just like Winthrop struggled with the conflict between the rights of the people and the failure of authorities in their responsibilities, the same problems are manifesting themselves today. (Poe, 2001) The right to have an arm and the responsibilities that go with the rights is one of the many struggles many citizens in different countries are facing today. If there was a better process to screen those to own a gun many unlikely events of misuse of guns could have been controlled.

Some countries have been applying general policies not to allow guns for the private use while others have chosen to apply policy selectively and therefore making guns available to certain segments of individuals in the community. Previously there has been an experience in the flow on guns on the private market consumer market which has identified the direction in which this aspect of defense and the policy of safety would have evolved. Some actual practices have indicates some natural threats that guns could cause if they were to be used by wrong group of consumers. (Poe, 2001)

Once guns were made, the humanity stated to note some of its importance and its limitations of the development. Every human being is obliged to make sure those guns and other harmful tools are controlled and that they don’t have limitations on the freedom enjoyed by individuals.   Unfortunately people have been going through several mistakes to start the attention that is deserved to control the guns in varied communities and nations. (Poe, 2001)
