A Career In The Financial Sector

Table of Contents

The financial sector provides an array of career opportunities for students who pursue courses in finance. Some of the career paths include; jobs in the banking sector; whereby one can choose to become a bank cashier or the branch manager of a bank. There many choices at one’s discretion depending on the skills which one acquires in finance courses and also on ones preferences. Another career one could pursue at the bank is a loans officer. A loans officer has the mandate of marketing the loans to clients. One can also choose to become a financial advisor in an organization; a financial advisor has the mandate of advising an organization on the best expenditure plans. Career lines in the financial sector are just innumerable; one could also become a financial manager in the organization. A finance manager is in charge of all financial aspects in an organization. He or she oversees financial disbursements and project budgets for an organization. Another career line one can choose in finance is to become a financial consultant.

A financial consultant is a freelance job where one specializes in giving critical financial information to those in need of it; a financial consultant works in freelance and his or her service is hired by different parties; for example, he or she could offer financial consultancy to banks, investors or insurance companies at a commission. Financial consultancy attracts a high rate of commissions which could range to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Financial careers are also inherent in the insurance sector. In insurance, one could choose to become a risk analyst, whereby he or she uses his or financial knowledge to assess the risks inherent in a policy to determine the level of premiums payable by policy takers. One could also become an insurance broker to an insurance company to market a company’s policies. Another career path in Finance is securities trading; here one could choose a job of advising speculators on performance of securities in the future and getting a commission for his or her services. Finance is arguably the richest field in career paths.

The career path I personally would like to pursue is that of a financial advisor. A financial advisor has the mandate of advising his or her organization of expenditures. He could advise the organization on investment decisions, for example, the choice of the best investment decision over a number of alternatives. He or she advices on the best choice of investment project using the financial techniques such as return on investment pay back period or profitability index. A financial advisor has a starting salary of $50000 in the United States. A master’s in business administration will suffice for a career in offering financial advice. A financial advisor also inspects the expenditure plans of an organization to advice on the feasibility of the expenditure plans. He or she has a budget in projecting the budget for the organization for the next fiscal year.  He or she works closely with the financial manager in budget projections. This career line has other forms of remuneration, in addition to the basic pay; one is also paid bonuses. One may also receive other financial and financial benefits from the employee such as housing and a car. However, one should be careful with the benefits because they attract taxation.
