  Being in the field of Finance, offers a wide range of opportunities to students.  Such opportunities include banking, auditing, real-estate controller, financial analyst, accountant, investment consultant, auditor, treasurer, and collector. These are lucrative opportunities that pay highly and are stable. In my interview with a treasurer for a prominent company, I learned that his work is that of a financial manager and a book keeper. He makes the effort of ensuring that his duty is according to the goal of the organization. He oversees all the financial issues of the organization are according to the constitutional and legal law that is acceptable in accounting practice. He oversees the production of all the necessary financial returns, reports, audits and accounts.  On a typical day, he is usually busy with these roles and can work late into the night to ensure that are materials are in place. The time when he becomes too busy is usually towards the end of the month.


To be an ideal candidate for this job, one should have experience and knowledge in finance practice.  He or she should have knowledge in financial management and book keeping, have financial analysis skills and be a fluent communicator. It is also expected that one should have advanced certification in the field of finance such as a master’s degree.  According to the Career Builders report (2009) a treasurer earns an average salary of $97, 645 annually. Becoming a Treasurer is achievable because many institutions, private and public organizations and the N.G.Os require them. Their work is to guide organizations on financial goals through planning and budgeting.
