Whether the computer is old or new, any failure to boot when the start button is pressed implies there is a problem somewhere. To complete my computer assignment for last week I went home and started up my computer before going for a packet of milk from the kitchen. As soon as I was back, I realized the computer was still off but I remembered having started it up. I put down my packet of milk and focused on establishing the problem since I had last used the computer the previous night and it was all functional.I had to troubleshoot to determine the cause of the failure. The first thing to ring in my mind was power failure but upon lighting the main switch, light flash in my room and no this was not the problem. Next I thought of lose connections and went on disconnecting and connecting all cables and on another trial no success.I could not find the problem but, alas! What of the socket. Is it lit? I asked myself.

And there, the socket supplying power to the computer was off. I could not understand what had switched it off as am not used to. Several times earlier, on different occasions though, my sister had tried to light the computer in vain and had in all instances blamed me for making her ask for her friend’s computer to finish up her assignments. In all instances it was the socket again as far as I can remember.Who switches off the socket? We all wondered when I told her my incident that made me almost hand in my assignment late. Two days later I was lying on my bed after long day at school. Our cat, Jim, came running through my room’s window and screeched his feet over the socket switching it off. The cool music playing from the computer went off. It was then I realized our cat’s habit caused computer lighting up problems by switching of the sockets without our consent. I took the cat and caressed him softly in affection.
