When using database management, physicians should handle patient’s personal information in the right manner. Privacy is of importance when treating patients although some physicians do not care on that. Patients have the right to know about their personal health information and how doctors use the information. Upon demand, doctors must let the patients see their personal information about their health status. Ethically, physicians should not at any time use the patient’s personal information for other use other than medical purpose, (Coronel, Morris & Rob, 2011).
Genetic information non discriminatory act is one of the compliances reporting acts that create problems in health care industry. In the United States, health discrimination affects people of different kinds. According to this act, individuals should be given full health insurance services irrespective of their status. Commonly, healthy people face challenges when taking health coverage plans. According to this act, health insurance uses genetic information of an individual in determining whether to give coverage or not. The legislation calls upon employers not to use genetic information when hiring or doing promotion of employees, (Coronel, Morris & Rob, 2011).
There is no doubt that health information exchange system helps provide quality health care services to patients. Patients manage to access information on health matters across networks. Research shows that health organizations that use HIEs manage to reduce its operation costs. It reduces unnecessary tests simply because information gets stored. It is an ideal way of saving time and money simply because information necessary for treatment is shared across departments or stored in electronic system. It helps provision of quality health care simply because doctors use relevant information in making medical decisions, (Coronel, Morris & Rob, 2011).
