A Diabetic Case Scenario

A Diabetic Case Scenario

Mr. Karnes cells have problems of taking up glucose due to lack of insulin or a resistance to insulin.  Therefore, there is a possibility that the insulin dose he took cause high quantities of sugar resulting in the rise of blood glucose levels.  The patient’s collapse could have resulted from an overdose of insulin causing too much reduction of the blood sugar concentration. Furthermore, since Mr. Karnes had not taken food to supplement his glucose generation his collapse was inevitable. Lack of glucose in the emergency kit could complicate Mr. Karnes situation to the extent of losing his life. As if not enough, the medical assistant in charge of taking care of the kit could be sued for negligence or even lose their job.

Immediately after, the emergency has been dealt with; the patient should be given some food, to eat. This food should be in the form of sugar energy source for the body. For example, food rich in carbohydrates such as rice, pasta, bread, and of course, all sorts of sweets. This food is significant for purposes of being broken down to glucose during the digestive process. Mr. Karnes needs more energy foods to help him in balancing the insulin levels in the blood. The sick individual should be allowed to rest; hence allowing digestion process to take place.  In addition, the emergency kit should be fully stocked with glucose, to avoid recurrence of lack of glucose in the emergency kit.

The health care institution should appoint medical assistance to be in charge of replacing the missing items; hence preventing reoccurrence of such a case. There should also be accountability of the stocked items to avoid missing items in the future.  All finished items should be replaced with a new one immediately they get finished. The health care institution should establish acute strategies of immediate replacement of all worn-out items.
