In the modern world of business, competition has become very stiff and to remain relevant in the market place, companies have had to come up plans and strategies to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness in all their operations. With that in mind, many companies have gone a step further to strengthen and modernize their basic elements. One of the most fundamental elements in any business is its workforce. The changing business trends has called on companies to invest in their workforce by amongst other issues providing tuition reimbursement and creating more time for adult learning. Being a vital stakeholder in any company, it is imperative for the workforce to demand training as well as educational relevant to their job so as to update their skills from time to time. Today’s increasingly competitive business environment calls for organizations to motivate and support the educational needs of their workforce financially so as to remain relevant in the competitive marketplace.
I have been working for this company for a period of five years now and within that time; I have been closely monitoring the various changes in the industry. It is good to note here that most of the companies in our industry have a concept they call continuous improvement whereby workers skills are improved and brought up to date on a continuous basis through the provision of tuition reimbursement as well; as the creation of extra time for adult learning. I have noted with a lot of concern that for our company to compete favouably in the market, it must support these two tenets of employee development.McConnell (2005) defines tuition reimbursement as a contractual agreement between the organization and its worker that details terms and conditions under which an organization can sponsor or pay far a workers continuing education.One of the benefits of tuition reimbursement and provision of time for adult learning is its ability to increase employee job satisfaction and hence increase productivity. McConnell (2005) notes that employees who have relevant expertise in their respective areas of specialization tend to enjoy their work much more than those who lack such expertise.
Adult learning increases employees’ expertise in their respective areas of specialization and enables them to perform more complex tasks in the organizational setting. If tuition reimbursement as well as support of adult learning is made a reality in our firm, I am confident most employees will learn new things in relation to what they do and this will in turn not only make them perform their duties better but it will also increase the productivity of our company.Increased productivity will be brought about as a result of employees learning new and modern ways of increasing efficiency while reducing wastage while performing routine or even more complex tasks.Secondly, providing tuition reimbursement for employees will also increase their royalty to the firm. This increased royalty and closeness to the company will make employees less likely to quit their job postings. This is a plus with regard to company’s growth and development. It might also interest you to note that in a recent study conducted by Echols (2005), 61% of the respondents who had benefited from additional training courtesy of the company stated that they were more likely to remain in their current jobs for an additional period of five years. With that in mind, you can clearly see that additional training and motivation to do so by the company will not only result in enhanced productivity but it will also result in employees staying for longer periods of time with the company.
There is also another hidden benefit with regard to a low employee turnover. According to McConnell (2005), a low turnover of employees cuts the various costs associated with staffing and recruitment be more than half. It is hence clear that a tuition reimbursement program as well as creation of creation of extra time for adult learning will not only be beneficial to our company in terms of enhanced productivity but it will also help the company to motivate as well as retain its workforce of long serving and experienced employees hence significantly cutting down on the recruitment and selection process. The other benefit of providing tuition reimbursement and creating additional time for adult learning will be an improvement as well as enhancement of our company’s professional image in the minds of both our clients and investors. In relation to our clients, they will trust our products and services once they get the assurance that our company is composed of professionals who have an updated knowledge on all aspects of the business. Concerning investors, the company may need to raise more capital in future for either growth into other fields or even expansion. Echols (2005) notes that apart from a company’s profitability and growth projections going forward, investors are constantly looking for companies that are managed be professionals, people who have the most up to date knowledge when it comes to that particular field of business.

McConnell (2005) notes that contrary to popular belief, the actual cost of providing tuition reimbursement to employees is very low both in terms of time and expenses incurred. This is especially true with the advent of online learning resources and classes. These online classes will enable employees to be available during normal working hours and dedicate their free time to online classes. This combines a perfect blend where employees learn and practice as well as apply the knowledge in a practical work setting. It is also good to note that providing tution reimbursement and creating additional time for adult learning is an inexpensive affair that will actually cause the Organization less than what it would need to hire as well as train new employees. It is hence important to note that indeed our company will save by financing the employees’ education.

It I good to note that, it will be of benefit to our company to provide tuition reimbursement and create additional time for adult learning as the implementation op the program is very flexible. For example, the company can limit eligible courses for reimbursement to be only those that are work related, that is, related in one way or another to the applicant’s current job or sponsor only those courses that are management related hence creating way for more senior posts for employees.With that in mind, it is hence important to note that such a program will be responsive to our company’s needs and situation at any given time and not the other way round.
