National Organ Transplant Act (NOTA) was needed in order to create an environment that is equal for all human beings. Not all patients may have the capacity to purchase organs in a given price. Such a law was enacted in order to provide procedures of getting and donating for a transplant. There are people who may take advantage of selling their organs for financial problems. Selling an organ to solve problems of finances should not apply in life and that is the reason why the act was enacted and made law. Health organizations had no standard rules and regulations for organ transplant. The law enabled to standardize all transplant activities in order to provide equal opportunities for patients who have problems. On the other hand, the national organ transplant act was needed in order to guide health facilities on how to conduct or provide transplant services, (Bakdash & Nancy, 2006).
Conflict has been around of how just individuals should be for selling personal organs as the medical industries does for profit. According from my own analysis, I believe that although individuals are the own donors of personal organs they should not have any right to get financial gains for an organ they donated. Companies, on the other hand should not sell personal organs simply because owners do not get any benefit from the sale. People donate personal organs free out of charge thus medical industry should also transplant the same without profit gain. Ethics explains that sale of personal organs is like becoming a slave. On the same note, selling organs for financial gain is dehumanizing people and that should not be the focus of transplant activity. I believe neither party should get any financial gain simply because the person suffering did not wish to have the condition affecting him or her, (Bakdash & Nancy, 2006).
NOTA law was developed in order to guide the process of putting price on human organs. Thousands of people are suffering for want of transplant services, but due to the price put on the organs they are unable to get those services. In reality, not all patients have the capacity to buy or access certain organs they want for their survival. I believe commoditizing is not the best approach for organ donation simply because awaiting patients may be unable to afford health care organizations that provide transplant services. Moral obligation and ethics should guide medical industry on handling matters of organ donation and transplant. There are millions of organs available for transplant, but the method used does not help patients waiting for the organs get the appropriate services, (Bakdash & Nancy, 2006).
I believe medical industry and individuals willing to donate should be guided by their moral aspects plus ethics when donating and doing the transplant of the organ. Commoditization of personal organs may affect health industry in different ways. Knowing that an individual may get some financial gain on something, health information on record may be interrupted in order to suit specification of the patient in need of the organ. This will focus on money and not health care for patients affected. In summary, transplant laws such as NOTA and others are in place in order to help medical industry understand the concept of organ transplant, (Bakdash & Nancy, 2006).
