Final Group Problem Analysis

One common issue that runs through each topic is mobilizing resources, people and knowledge so as to improve the lives of other people in the society. Getting resources, people and knowledge together in order to help other people and improve their living standards is not easy as they face challenges and lack of support.  The group helped each member in examining his or her topic by asking questions. The team members asked questions that would enable the team members attain their dreams in social leadership change. The team members covered different issues ranging from poverty, homelessness, child abuse to culture change in the organization.  The following questions helped us in reexamining the group social change paradigm for every member.


First, Alex claims that creating cultural change, in the organization, entails various things. Changing leadership is important in changing the organizational culture. Also, creating a committee that concentrated on employee safety, improvement, audit and formulation of policy helps in bring change in the workplace. In addition, working with Aubrey Daniels international helps bring change in the workplace (Elder & Paul, 2010).


After responding to the questions raised by other group members, Alex summarized the effect analytical questioning had on his effort to bring cultural change at the workplace. The questions helped me in understanding all aspects of his project (Scheiner, 1995). I believe that establishing systems that employees can trust function and are consistency will help in bringing cultural change. Culture begins with the management, and once the management takes the first step then the other steps will follow (Quinn & Cameron, 2011). My goal is to change the culture in the workplace by changing leadership and creating a committee to address employee safety and develop policies (Sveningsson & Alvesson, 2008).


Summary: The questions posed by Frederick, Lygia and  Corliss made me think deeply  about  culture change in the organization  and  address  problems that were not mention previously on the initial post. The questions should be addressed in order to improve organizational culture and create an appropriate culture. The management has not been effective in bring cultural change in the organization, and this has affected employees negatively. They have not involved employees in decision making and gave safety priority. Instead, they have given machines priority. Therefore, creating a committee to focus on safety and develop policies will help in bringing change in the organization. In addition, changing the management will bring change.


Second, Corliss gave a brief summary of the impact the questions on his vision of preventing child abuse in the society after answering all the questions (Scabracq, 2010).

After reviewing all the questions, I increased my knowledge about child abuse in the community. The rate of children being abused physically, mentally and emotionally in the society has increased greatly. Over 5,000 children in Houston areas have been abused and neglected and placed in foster care. School professionals have reported child and neglect. The mostly common form of abuse is neglectful supervision. The children are either abused by parents or family members (Gerrits & Newton, 2010). However, in most cases mothers abuse their children.


The questions asked by other group members made me think intensely about child abuse in the society.  The questions made me think how I could access more information on national and local level (Wolfe, 1999).  In addition, the questions asked enabled me to solve the issue analytically. It made me examine the issue from different perspectives and avoid assumptions.  People have various assumptions about child abuse and this has made it hard to prevent child abuse. People assume that males abuse children often than female. Also, people assume that the abuser is normally unfamiliar person. These assumptions hinder child abuse prevention efforts as most abuses go unnoticed as evidenced in Hariss County. In Harris County, ¾ of the neglect case were as a result of neglect from mothers. However, only ¼ of the cases were confirmed. Therefore, the questions asked enabled me examine the role of parents, family members and strangers in child abuse and neglect. Moreover, the questions aided in understanding the harm caused by child abuse. Child abuse affects the relationship between parents and children due to hatred and resentment (Child Advocates, 2012).


Summary: The problem of child abuse in the community can be addressed by letting parents and children know that they can get support from other members and also organizations.  Providing counseling to parents abused before can help solve the problem as the parents learn how to parents.  Parents abused before tend to abuse their children due to lack of knowledge on alternative parenting methods. The parents do not have sufficient knowledge to cope with stress when parenting (Corby, 2005). I can prevent child abuse by raising awareness at various institutions including churches and schools. I can reach children and educate them about child abuse by interacting with them through the internet and social media websites.  Additionally, I can create awareness by holding concerts and conferences that target youngsters. Solving child abuse problem will improve the relationship between parents and children.  This will improve children academic performance and their self esteem. Hence, collaborating with others can help solve the problem of child abuse and enable children live a happy life (Sturt, 2006).


Third, Frederick examined all the questions raised by the group members and reflected on how they helped him attain his dream of eliminating poverty in Roswell.  Frederick reflected on the questions asked by Alex, Lygia and Corliss.

The questions asked by Alex, Corliss and Lygia enabled me to think about poverty in Roswell from multiple perspectives (LeMay, 2008). That is from a national, local and state level.  As a result, I had to gather information about poverty on a national, state and local level. The information gathered was compared to understand the prevalence of poverty in Roswell. In addition, the questions helped understand the causes in Roswell and distribution of wealth.  In addition, the questions assisted me in identifying solutions to the problem (Maume & Arrighi, 2007).


Summary: A large percentage of residents in Roswell live below the poverty line. 28% of the residents below the poverty level compared to 23.5% of people in New Mexico.  The high rate of poverty in Roswell can be attributed to various factors including lack of education and employment opportunities.  The residents do not give importance to education and hence don’t contribute to education (Ideland, 2012). This has led to low education levels in the city and hindered the residents from getting high paying jobs.  The median household income in Roswell is lower than the New Mexico household income (Hariss & Lin, 2008). Government neglect has also contributed to high incidences of poverty in Roswell. The poverty can be eliminated by creating employment opportunities and also providing funds for establishing businesses. The government should provide funds for the residents to establish businesses (Webster, 2010). This will increase their income levels and enable them to meet their basic needs. Also, educating the residents on the importance of education will improve education access and reduce poverty by enabling them get jobs (Lawson & Lawson, 2008).


Lastly, Lygia examined the questions posed by other group members and reflected how they impacted his understanding about homelessness in Texas. The questions aided him evaluate the issue of homelessness in Texas from a national and state level. In addition, the questions helped identify causes of homelessness in Texas and develop appropriate solutions.


Summary:  According to Lygia, Texas has the largest number of homelessness children. More than 79,000 people are homeless (McNamara, 2008).  The homelessness in Texas is attributed to lack of education and employment. The homelessness has affected child education as many children do not get an education.  The homelessness can be eliminated by providing support to the community members.  Spiritual organizations should provide moral, spiritual and financial support to the members. In addition, prevent alcoholism and job training eliminates homelessness. I believe that working with religious organizations to provide support to the members is an effective solution. The government should provide support to the residents through housing programs (Levinson, 2004).
