The Five Pillars of Islam

  The  five  pillars of  Muslim are the duties of  Shahadah  which  deals  with the declaration of  faith,  salah of  prayer,  sawn  or fasting,  zakat   of  arms  giving especially  during  the Ramadan,  and  Hajj for  pilgrimage  to Mecca. These five pillars are essential to every Muslim and are more than inward and abstract oriented.Shahadah  is  a statement  that  prophesizes  accepting  Mohammed  and  monotheism of  Mohamed  being  the only  messenger  of God.  It is  often  prophesized in  Arabic  language  to   mean  that  there  is  no god  but God.  Muhammad is God’s messenger. Salah is  the  daily  prayer  of  Islam  which  is categorized  in to five;  there is  Fajr, Duhr, Asr, Magrib  and  Isha.  The prayers are done in the sunrise, the afternoon, sunset and in the evening respectively.

Each prayer has various amount of rakat which can be two, there or four.  All the prayers are recited while facing Mecca the place of famous mosques of the world.  Zakat deals with the practices of charity giving known as alms.  It involves the responsibility of Islam religion to its followers to ease economic hardship of the disadvantaged.   Sawn is the fasting season recognized by the Quran. This is a compensation of repentance which happens during the month of Ramadan.  Followers  are  to abstain  from  drinks,  food  and  sexual intercourse  from  dawn  to dusk  during this period.  The hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca. Which  a  follower  has  to visit  at least  once  in his/  her  life  time  in  the Islam  Month  of  Dhow al-Hajji.  When an Islam is at least 6.2 miles from Mecca, has to dress in Ihram Clothing.  After visiting the city one acquires the title of a Hajj/hajji (Answering Islam, 2010)
