Summary of the Article

In the article, the authors examine the issue of food allergies in schools. Although different schools have implemented programs for mitigating food allergies among students, most of them have not been effective. Such breakdowns are caused by ineffective policies. The authors emphasize that all stakeholders should take part in developing a management program for dealing with food allergies in learning institutions. In developing such programs, the enlightenment of stakeholders is a critical perspective (Pistiner, 2012).


All stakeholders must be familiar with the various principles that govern the effective implementation of food allergy management programs. Food allergies among students might appear inconsequential, but they have the capacity to wreck the victim’s health system (Pistiner, 2012). The implementation of some food allergy programs can easily cause divisiveness among stakeholders. However, education helps in mitigating such types of challenges.


Merits of the Article

The article provides an excellent framework from which education institutions can develop and implement effective programs for managing food allergies. It is vital to establish a self-sustaining environment that facilitates for an all inclusive approach. Through this approach, the different stakeholders understand the most effective ways of dealing with food allergies. The article also identifies the various ways in which an education program can help in saving time through awareness.


Shortcomings of the Article

Elements of bias are evident in different sections of the article. For instance, the authors do not evaluate the various drawbacks of implementing an awareness program for food allergies in learning institutions. Such drawbacks include the straining the school’s budget among other perspectives. The article does not provide an effective framework for the various alternatives of dealing with food allergies. The authors just dwell upon the education program.
