Electronic health records entail electronic information recording of patient’s health information. It is a system that helps healthcare facilities record and store individual’s health information in a digital format. Electronic health records in the healthcare industry help store and share information of patients in an easy way. It makes it easy for management to control the patient’s health information simply because it stores in the electronic form. I did not know that EHRs have the capacity to enable various health departments share patients information. Electronic health records are applicable in different medical departments such as radiology, medical history, immunization, and billing information among others. Most experts in the health industry argue that electronic health record system is of benefit in the health industry and reduces costs. Evidence shows that although the initial cost of installing electronic health record system is high, at long run costs get reduced and cut down. Some people argue that installation of electronic health record system is difficult due to cost and skills required. The idea is that the initial capital is that one which may be immense, but later the health facility will reduce cost of paper work and wastage of time, (Gartee, 2011).
From my analysis, I learnt that electronic health record system makes work easier for health care industry simply because it saves time and reduces operation costs as compared to the traditional method. I have worked in a health facility where they use paper work for patient’s health information. Electronic health record system helps reduce paper work, and as a result, it reduces space required to store patient’s health information. The process and work involved in making their records do not create friendly working environment. From what I have come to know of this system, I would wish to work in an office where electronic health record system is in use. I believe work will be easy for me and my patients. I will have the potential to provide enough services to patients who have problems, (Gartee, 2011).
In health care industry, medical assistants play necessary roles in assisting patients. In order to ensure medical activities are running in a proper direction, medical assistance performs clinical assistance and administrative work in a professional manner. In a situation where an angry patient wants to know about his bill information, responding in a retaliation manner does not help. The patient will become mad and may develop complications. This will make the company loose clients simply because they will lack trust and hope with the place they get medical services, (Gartee, 2011).
Out of the pain a patient may have she or he might be angry and rude when calling for consultation. In controlling such a situation, as a qualified medical assistance, the best thing to do is create a calm environment for conversation. The first thing is to listen to the patient and lower the tone of response in a way that the patient will recognize. I will listen to the patient and explain to him what the causes of his bill are. If he does not listen, I will request him to talk with the manager for further explanation. Understanding and listening will be of help to the patient and will help him become satisfied with the results of the conversation, (Gartee, 2011).
