There are four basic healthcare models as Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) indicates. This healthcare models include; the Beveridge model, the Bismark model, the National health insurance model and the Out- of-pocket model. Furthermore, according to PNHP, the entire countries in the globe have got their own sets of arrangements for achieving the three basic goals a healthcare system. The goals get focused on dealing with; treatment for the sick, keeping citizens healthy and protecting families against financial ruin from medical bills. The main focus on this paper is on two models “The Beveridge model and the out of pocket model”.
The Beveridge model got named after William Beveridge a social reformer who endeavored to design the Britain’s National Health Service (BNHS). In Beveridge model, healthcare services get provided and funded by the government through the revenue collected, just like the government civil services. In addition, since most of the clinics and hospitals are owned by the government; some physicians get their salaries from the government. The government also provides payment to some private doctors in a bid to meet citizen’s healthcare needs.
The out of pocket model:
The healthcare systems get only established in the industrialized and developed countries. As a matter of fact, –perhaps only 40 countries out of 200 countries worldwide can afford to establish Medicare or healthcare systems. Most of the countries in the world today are both too poor and disorganized to offer any kind of throng medical care. Those countries primarily offer Medicare opportunities to the well-off at the cost of the poor. In US, this model promotes care for all citizens regardless of their financial enablement. The model caters for the low income earners as well as the wealthy fellows. However, recently US introduced a separate system for separate classes of people. This separation depends on the difference between the working and the elderly persons who get catered for by the government.
