In April, 2019, Hewllet Packard Company announced that it would acquire palm Inc at a cost of $1.2 billion. The company was acquired in July 1, 2010. The company intends to transform its product lines to include PCs and notebooks (Singh, Rao& Ramnarayan, 1998).

Hewllet Packard Company and palm, Inc have decided to carry out an organizational diagnosis to determine how various features in palm Inc are aligned. For example, the two companies have decided to analyze the input, the resources and productivity. In addition, the companies have decided to analyze throughput efforts, outputs and performance and strategy. This is to ensure the firms are compatible so as to increase productivity. The main aim of carrying organizational diagnostic is to identify any problems in palm Inc that can affect integration of palm into HP (Singh, Rao& Ramnarayan, 1998).

Organizational diagnostic is important. It helps mangers determine the differences between the current performance of a firm and future performance. This makes it easy to achieve the goals set. There is disagreement between the managers. The managers do not know which organizational diagnostic method of model should be used. Some of the managers are familiar with several models which they have read or heard. The managers have not used the organizational diagnostic method before (Singh, Rao& Ramnarayan, 1998).

The managers wanted to use 7s model, the congruence model and the burke-litwin model. A 7s model is a system for analyzing the organization and its effectiveness. The model identifies the seven key elements that make a firm successful or that hinder a firm from being successful. The seven factors include strategy, structure and systems. Other elements include style, skills, employees and shared values. The seven elements work together to increase productivity and bring change to the organization. If one of the elements is not working well, then it influences other elements and this affects success in the organization. Most organizations have shared values. Shared values are beliefs and assumptions held by the workers. The shared values shape how a firm behaves. Shared values influence organizational success as they determine what the organization beliefs in. The culture of an organization influences its productivity. Poor organizational culture leads to low productivity. This is because the environment is not conducive. An organization should have an organizational chart that show how duties and responsibilities are shared. Moreover firms have strategies that help the firm achieve the goals set. The seven factors are interrelated and they work together. They complement each other. For example,  organizational culture, strategy and structure work together to increase productivity (Sveningsson &Alvesson, 2007).

The strengths of 7s model are many. First, 7s model can be used to study firms that are ineffective. This is because the model analyzes the seven factors that make a firm successful. This makes it easy to understand the firm well and make wise decisions. Second, the 7s model can be used to bring change to the organization. This is because the model analyzes the seven elements and identifies the weaknesses of a firm. This makes it easy to make the necessary changes. Thirds, the 7s model allows managers to act on all the seven elements that make an organizational productive. This helps balance activities in the organization. Thus, the 7s model is ideal to bring change to an organization. The 7s model requires a lot of time and knowledge so as to get valid results (Sveningsson &Alvesson, 2007).

The congruence model is used to improve the performance of an organization. Most firms have experienced poor performance as a result of poor organizational culture. The congress model believes that the performance of any organization is as a result of four factors. That is tasks, people, structure and culture. The model does not include other elements included in the 7s model. Researchers argue that the more compatible the elements are, the greater the performance of the firm. This implies that firms should develop the organizational culture, structure, activities and people so as to improve performance. The model might not be good in diagnosing the palm company as it focuses on three elements out of seven. It ignores other elements that are vital to improving performance and productivity (Sveningsson &Alvesson, 2007).

The congruence model has an advantage. The model helps improve competitive advantage in an organization. This is because the model helps firms measure their performance and improve performance. The congruence model has a disadvantage. The congruence model only focuses on four elements. It focuses on organizational culture, structure, people and tasks. It does not incorporate other elements in the analysis (Sveningsson &Alvesson, 2007).

A casual model of organization performance and change analyzes how performance is influenced by external and internal factors. The model helps managers analyze the organization and the environment so as to identify any issues. Also, the model helps managers integrate the dimensions so as to improve performance. The model helps managers understand how different dimensions work together each other and how they affect performance. It also helps them understand how external factors affect the dimensions. The model analyzes the elements of an organization and external factors (Sveningsson &Alvesson, 2007).

The casual model has some advantages. First, the casual model helps managers understand the company. Managers analyze the company and the external environment. This helps managers make good decisions. The model has a lot of benefits as it helps business owners analyze the environment and organization (Palmer, 2005).

There other organizational diagnostic models like the analytical model. The analytical model helps managers identify any problems in the organization. This makes it easy for managers to correct the problems so as to improve performance. The model analyzes the environment and the organizational structure. This helps managers know how the environment affects performance in the organization. The model is easy to use unlike other models. The model does not include the seven elements of an organization. This affects the results being released (Palmer, 2005).

Force field analysis model can be used to identify the internal forces that bring change. This helps managers develop the forces well. The advantage of this model is the ability to identify driving forces that influence change in the organization. The model has some short comings as it does not include the seven elements of an organization. This makes it difficulty to identify problems in the organization (Palmer, 2005).

There are several issues that palm Inc is facing. First, the firm is facing technological problems. The firm wants to improve its technology so as to make it more productive. The technology will enable the company to increase its product line. Second, palm Inc has difficulties in expanding into other markets and increasing the product line. The firm has been unable to increase its market share as it does not have the right strategy to use. Also, the firm has always wanted to increase the product line to include computers and notebook. The company cannot achieve the objective set because it lacks technology (Palmer, 2005).

The casual model is the best model to help the firm achieve the objective set. This is because the  model allows managers to analyze the organization and the form so as to improve performance. Managers analyze outside factors and how they influence performance in the organization (Deszca, Cawsey, 2007).

Recommendation

The managers should use the casual model when diagnosing palm Inc. This is because the model enables managers to access the external environment and the firm. The managers will be able to access the seven factors of an organization using casual model. For example, they will analyze organizational culture, structure etc. Also managers will analyze the external environment and find factors that affect productivity and performance in Palm Company. This will make it easy for HP Company to know whether Palm technology, productivity, resources, performance and out are compatible with HP elements. Thus, the casual model is the best (Deszca, Cawsey, 2007).
