Innovation Action Research and Leadership
Innovation Action research is a form of research where practitioners and professionals reflect deeply and systematically about their practice. The implementation of a sound action plan then follows so as to enhance improvements in their practice. It can, therefore, be said to be an inquiry done to the ‘system’. Leadership is a practice and thus Innovation Action Research is necessary to enhance the effectiveness and competitiveness. According to Stringer (1996), through Innovation Action Research, an individual can create knowledge, propose and implement change so as to improve practice and performance.
In fact, through Action Research, innovations and collaborative interventions are designable. Leaders who want to enhance and mid-wife change can become learners and through their own actions, tackle the problems facing them and their followers. In social problem analysis, Innovation action research can be used to inform and finally tackle a social problem by enhancing self evaluation whenever there is a problem.
Through the said research tool, leadership can collaboratively work to understand their local situations and enhance change. This improves the situation from the undesired social state to the desired social state. The process may include describing the problem and area of focus. The third step will be to from research questions and the possible innovation to be implemented. A timeline for implementation is then developed. The membership group is then developed after all the above has been done. This is then followed closely by a list of resources needed during the implementation. Data is then collected using the appropriate tools of inquiry before analysis and reporting is done.
