Integrated Theory
1: This letter to you is intended to express my interest in undertaking a doctorial program at your university. I have currently specialized in biology major my academic record with a 3.26 cumulative GPA score and a majored GPA of 3.1. I have undertaken a research in biology for a period of one and a half year. I have undertaken two years experience in research. My first year of research was on gene identity in Drosophila and the second year was on opiate dependence.
I am particularly interested in the area of cognitive neuroscience in areas like emotions, language and the study of memory. Another second choice which is related to this is the area of computational neuroscience in using models in showing how the brain controls human behavior and general functioning. Currently, I have not completed doing my GRE General examinations because I am on my final semester. My current research has not been published (Jenkins, 2005, pp 3-6).
In order to fit into the scholar-practitioner-leader model I will I have to incorporate the concepts related to leadership, practice and scholarship in order to better understand and to establish a positive impact in the field of cognitive neuroscience. Being a doctorate student, I will have to go beyond the theoretical aspect to apply the practical concept in dissertation writing, residencies and in group discussion. I will also be an active student in participating in dialogues in symposiums and in the classroom I, integrating theoretical and application knowledge and conducting authentic research in my filed of interest . With the use of these strategies I will be able to expand my understanding on how leaders inspire and influence other people in the community.
2: As a doctoral learner
My new responsibility as a doctorate learner is to become an innovator. This means that I have to be creative and contribute to a new area of knowledge through the identification of needs, analyzing and thinking of new ways to meet the human needs. I have to come up with new processes and technique which are realistic and applicable. As an innovator I have to carry out extensive research and to be a leaner that is self directed (Levin 2006, PP 36-48).
In the filed of neuroscience I will for example have to neurobiology of various diseases which causes various nervous disorders and to establish ways of treating and controlling such diseases. This is through applying insights, ideas and information through basic inquiry of science in the prevention, cure and modification of human diseases.
3: What are the shared values?
Some of the shared values of the doctoral community is working hard with dedication to my filed of study. This means that I have to take full responsibility of the various projects I do. The success of my research will depend on my effective things, strong skills, like problem solving strategies and application of my critical thinking skills. This means I need to put my whole effort into my research work. Another value is to choose well my supervisors whose work I admire. Theses are the works of the supervisors which I have read in the department and in my search in Pub Med database (Orr 2006, pp 492).
