Italian Pizza: Geography of Food

The favorite dish is the margherita pizza. The pizza is a common dish in Italy. According to RoDante da Fana, the general newsgroup for cooking in Italy, pizza originated from Egypt and then went to the imperial Rome. Though it is not clear where the pizza originated from, it is evident that it has found great advancements and creations in Italy. In the early times, pizza was seen as a cheap food and it was widely used for lunch or even breakfast by the Neapolitans.

It was in the 1980s that the margherita pizza was created. This was by a Neapolitan Pizzaioli, Rafaele Esposito. The pizza was named margherita after the beautiful queen of Italy. Furthermore, it was created for queen. The margherita pizza is made by making sprinkles of fresh leaves of basil above pizza. This is done above a pizza that has been crowned with tomato and mozzarella. To represent the nation at large, the crowning was done in green, white and red which are the national colors. The white was made for mozzarella, green basil and red tomato.


In Italy, the pizza is seen as symbolizing unity. It is a great meal that once shared, it brings the people together. In Italy, the pizza is a delicacy that families and even friends share together. Following its wide creations in Italy, the pizza is also viewed as a representative of Italy throughout the world. Whenever, anyone thinks of pizza, what clicks on their mind is Italy and it being an Italian dish. There are various types and modifications of pizza in the world today but the fame of its history as well as ingredients still goes back to Italy.
