Juvenile Courts

Juvenile Courts

A juvenile criminal process looks into correcting a delinquent’s behavior. The focus hence is not on accusation for a crime committed but on establishing effective strategies to help the delinquent reform. In contrast, an adult criminal process aims to determine whether an offender is guilty or innocents. If guilty the court punishes the offender through jail term or monetary fines (Corriero, 2006). Another difference is a juvenile criminal process is mostly private with involvement of only the family members and the legal fraternity. An adult court proceeding, on the other hand, is public and goes into the record of the offender.A voluntary confession in juvenile delinquents must be assessed to determine its validity. Children can easily be manipulated to narrate a criminal occurrence in a certain manner.

Law enforcers can also use the element of fear to make juvenile volunteer information (Corriero, 2006). It is the responsibility of the court to determine the validity of a juvenile confession, and whether the juvenile was in the right state of mind.A Residential Program Manager (RPM) works in correctional facilities. Among other children, such as those recovering from substance and drug abuse, an RPM works towards helping the delinquent adopt appropriate behavior. An RPM can be found in detention facilities where the court sends the juvenile delinquents.A juvenile adjudication process refers to the jurisdiction of the court to take children under its care. Usually, the child is a juvenile delinquent and the court determines strategies to help the child rehabilitate. When dealing with a juvenile court hearing, the court establishes the legality of the case presented against the juvenile (Corriero, 2006). The court then determines whether the child is a delinquent and whether the child needs rehabilitation. An adjudication process could mean that the parent loose custody of the child as he is taken over by the state.
