Leaders are individuals with certain influencing powers that help in developing a leadership direction. Although leaders and managers are seen to have same qualities and skills, I have realized that the two fields are totally different. In most cases, leaders do what is right as per the situation but managers will follow the laid protocol in order to achieve set goals of the organization. Leading and managing are two different things that require individuals in different environments behave in different ways. Below is an essay reflecting on several aspects of leadership and management in the current developing world?

Discussion

In the current global world, organizations that want to be successful must deploy good leadership as well as management skills. The old saying ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ clearly explains how companies work in order to achieve set goals and objectives. There is always a need to change and it is through innovation individuals get to achieve the expected change. I have learnt that innovation enables different organization operations develop in the right direction. The current competition requires leaders who are smart in a way that they have the potential of developing skills of innovation towards development. Research shows that an organization that is stable in its operations requires the best management skills so as to manage each and every input towards goals realization, (George & Jones, 2009).

Recent organization management shows that there are different types of leadership skills that different individuals apply when providing leadership services in different places. Although there are several leadership qualities, there are two main effective leadership skills. The first one if the human quality skills and the second one is the procedural knowledge skills. Rarely do organizations have leaders who posses the two types of effective leadership skills. I have realized the importance of being an effective manager as well as focused leader. Organizations are made of different employees who have different skills and beliefs. The work of a leader is to understand all the employees and develop a workable environment that fosters organization goals and objectives, (George & Jones, 2009).

The current world of globalization affects not only the organization but also leaders who operate there. There are different challenges that leaders encounter when running organizations. Modern leaders are required to develop work environment best for employees who came from different cultures. It is the work of the leaders to learn and understand all employees who works under them. This has been a great challenge simply because each and every leader has own views regarding certain aspects. It is therefore important for any leader to have skills that gives vision to employees. Dealing with people of different cultures requires someone who has qualities of an effective leader. Research shows that leaders who are able to understand their employees help the organization to achieve set goals and objectives, (George & Jones, 2009).

Different theories of leadership explain different aspects that guide leaders in their activities. In order to have an organization that offers returns to the stakeholders, there should be leadership aspects that go in line with set goals and objectives. According to Adam Smith, a good economy is one that is developed in a capitalistic manner.

Capitalism helps an economy grow in the appropriate direction. It is through capitalism leadership skills an economy can grow and achieve set goals. Plato a great Socrates wrote about ‘The Republic’ an article that helped most leaders of past and today on how to deal with employees. According to Plato, men work in the right direction simply because they fear to have any kind of punishment. In this case, leaders have been able to develop different skills that assist them in handling employees thus achieve goals of an organization, (George & Jones, 2009).

I have understood the reason why leaders manage to handle employees who are from different cultures. Once the leader has focus and vision towards a given goal, things operates in the right manner. Effective leaders are always focused in a way that they develop a healthy working environment for employees. Having vision towards a given goal is important simply because you get directions and ideas to achieve set goals. Ability to accomplish something develops from the fact that one has vision to achieve it and that is how leaders should be when leading a given situation. Creativity is one of the most important skills or aspects an ideal leader should have. Individuals who are creative develop good leaders simply because they have the ability to develop something and how it will manage it, (George & Jones, 2009).

The current organization setting requires leadership that will help in realizing dreams and objectives of the organization. Ambitious leadership skills has enabled most organization in this world of globalization manage to stay in the market. As humans, we are weak in some areas thus when working within an organization, this such as envy and pride will always develop. It is the work of a leader to ensure that an environment has been created in a way that all employees operate in harmony. Having undertaken leadership and management course, I now understand the main reason why there are always some conflicts in organizations. Skills acquired in the course will help me deal with different people who are from different cultures. The management course as well as leadership course has prepared me enough to develop a responsible working condition for senior as well as minor people in a given organization, (George & Jones, 2009).

Why do leaders manage to achieve goals and objectives of an organization? I have realized that most effective leaders always think strategically. In the human nature setting, there are certain things that never change irrespective of location of an organization. Having such situation it is the work of the leader to foster and develop a healthy environment for employees. It is through the management course I have discovered that managers should be well educated in such a way that they are able to deal with people from different cultures. Since there are those things that will never change in an organization, it is important for managers develop a system that handles such issues whenever they arise, (George & Jones, 2009).

Conclusion

Leadership and management course has assisted me develop different skills required in handling organization aspects. Although management and leadership are two different things, to some point they always operate in the same way. Effective organization operation requires both the leadership as well as the management skills.
