The Necessity of Others Is the Mother of Invention

According to different scholars, creativity fuels intrinsic motivation something that has been disapproved by some research conducted by different researchers. Although there is a relationship between creativity and intrinsic motivation, there are other factors that enhance their existence. The author of this article has developed three different studies in order to get the idea behind creativity and intrinsic motivation. This essay looks at different variables that have been used in this study, (Grant & Berry, 2011).

Table of Contents

What is the dependent variable?

In the first hypothesis of study 1, the depended variable is the creativity. Creativity depends on intrinsic motivation as well as prosocial motivation.

What are the independent variables?

The independent variable of the first study is intrinsic motivation that is believed to motivate or fuel creativity in a given situation.

What mediating or intervening variables are identified?

Perspective talking is the intervening or mediating variable. The work of mediating variable in this case is to moderate the relationship that exists between the dependent variable (creativity) and independent variable.

How is any control variables considered?

Having realized that there exists relationship between the variables of the study; it is evident that control variables must exist. Individuals and contextual factors were believed to have influence on creativity as well as motivation. Job characteristic was the main control variable in understanding the relationship that creativity and motivation holds. The scale that was developed by Humphrey and Morgeson was used in measuring intrinsic motivation and creativity. On the same point, the study admitted that openness and conscientiousness may have some relation to intrinsic motivation and creativity. In this case, the four item scale was used to control the traits, (Grant & Berry, 2011).

How is each variable defined and measured?

Creativity is defined as the dependent variable of the study that is believed to have some relationship with intrinsic motivation. According to the research, the author of the study used likert-type scale anchored to measure all the variables used in the study. The scale was used to measure the effectiveness of the variables in relation to the need of the study. The intrinsic motivation variable was developed in a way that respondents were expected to provide their views. A question was developed that allowed respondents provide their views and rate the expected out come. On the other hand, creativity of a given officer was expected to have grown in relation to the number of months an individual had stayed in the given field of study. Control variables were defined to have a relationship between the two main variables (dependent and independent). The four item scale plus the Humphrey and Morgeson scale were used to measure the control variables of the study, (Grant & Berry, 2011).

Do you consider the definitions and measurements of the variables appropriate for this study?

From my point of view, the research was successfully undertaken where results were given and conclusion made. I believe that they were appropriate for the study because the expected results were realized.
