Need For A Research Question

Table of Contents

Students are required to use research questions when carry out research. A research question should be developed well as it is the first methodological step a researcher has to take when carrying out research. The research should define the research question clearly. Student use research questions in health care when carrying out research. An example of a research question is “reducing the cost for treating falls among elderly people by developing tools”. The researcher will develop the research question above using relevant materials. For example, the researcher will identify ways of preventing falls among elderly people so as to reduce the cost for treating falls (LoBiondo-Wood &Haber, 2006).

First, a research question is important as it helps the reader know the subject the researcher is addressing. Readers look at the research question so as to understand what the writer is saying. Most students do not know how to formulate the research questions. This affects the quality of the research work. Readers find it difficulty to understand the research work when the writer or researcher has not defined the research question well. This is because the content used to support the research question is not well organized. For instance, in the research question above readers will find it hard to understand the research if the researcher does not formulate the research question well. In addition, readers find it easy to understand the research when the research defines the research question well. Defining the research question well is important as it helps the researcher organize his work well. This improves the quality of the research work.In conclusion, a research question is vital as it forms the basis of a research work (Burns & Grove, 2009).
