I have always had a passion of becoming a nurse. This all started when I was born. My mother gave birth to me while she was still in school. She decided to take responsibility and be ready to raise her child all alone. My mother worked hard to make sure that all ends met and took me to school. Through the support of my grandparents, my mother was able to complete her education and got a job as a nurse in a nearby hospital, in the city. When I joined college, I was able to study nursing. Nursing is a career w here one will never finish training. This is a demanding career, and knew that I was to deal with the daily challenges that it comes with. I knew that job was a rewarding job and offers me with a sense of job satisfaction. While I was growing up I watched my mother’s nursing career develop and this has given me the desire to pursue nursing. I have been able to witness all her efforts and hard work in the different stages of her nursing career. I have always been proud of my mother’s selfishness and commitment in the difference that she has made in people life.

Love and loss

Since my early ages, I had been involved in helping and caring for others. I also had a good background since my mother was a nurse and saw how happy she was with her work. At the age of 25 years, I was hired to be a nurse in the same hospital where my mother worked. This is an environment that I feel most comfortable when working. Being a nurse represents the health services. The way patients and families are treated have a long lasting impression on how people view the health service. While still working I thought of moving out of my mother’s house to live alone. My mother did not like this idea because she did not want to be alone in the house and was not sure if I was ready to live alone. So I decided to stay with her for some more years. We lived with mother for about two years when she agreed on my decision to live so that I could start my own life. Being in a life where I knew that no one was watching me, this was the happiest moment of my life. This is life that I had always wished to have. Nursing is what I loved, and I was happy about this achievement. While at school, my teachers always told me that happiness is the best time in life. This is a place where everyone wants to remain in. I am in interpersonal stage. This is where I understand the needs of others and my needs.  I would like to remain in this stage so that I can create a good relationship with other people and show how much I care for others through offering them with my nursing services.

Everything changed one morning, when I arrived in the hospital and found out that I had been accused of giving the wrong medication to a patient who had died. This got me unexpected as I was always careful with the medication that I was giving patients, but since the management had to follow the organization rules, I had to be released off my duties while they were investigating. I knew that this was not my mistake, but had nothing to say until the investigations were concluded. This was the moment when I knew my career had come to an end. I was out of work for a period of one month. It did not take long after a received a call from the hospital requiring me to report back to work as the issue had been solved and I wasn’t guilty. This was the darkest moment in my life as I thought I would never work as a nurse.

Death

It was after my mother had fallen sick and had to live with her so as to take care of her until she would recover. I had to make sure that she took her medications as required and prayed to God to give her some more days to live. I did not imagine living without her as she was the only family I had. One evening when I was driving home together with my friend, we were involved in an accident where I broke my arm and was hospitalized for some few days. My friend was not able to survive this accident, and she died. I was the only survivor as the driver to the car that had caused accident had also died. I thank God that I was able to survive this accident this is the closest that I was ever to death. I fought for my life as I knew my mother needed me more than ever as she was not feeling well. It did not take long when she died. It was a painful experience losing the only person I had known all my life and knowing that I would not get another mother like her. However, I understood the situation and knew that we all have to die as death is the destination that we all share.
