Peter Barge restructured the United States corporate real estate service division so as to enable the company to provide integrated solutions to customers. In order to restructure the organization peter has developed an account management system. The system is used to coordinate all the activities of three business units in the organization. The three business units in the organization have operated separately for the last few years. This has made it hard to offer services to the clients (Galbraith, 2005).

The design process involves a sequence of steps that are used to solve problems in the organization. The design process can be used to solve the restructuring problems in the organization. Peter needs to use different steps of the design process so as to balance the benefits of the original organization with the benefits of the new organization (Galbraith, 2005).


This will in turn help the firm achieve its goals by becoming customer oriented hence offer solutions they suit the customers. First, the company should identify the problem. Then design the problem briefly. The organization should prepare a task schedule that shows the activities and time needed to complete the activities.


Then list the requirements of product requirements or organizational requirements. After that the organization should try to find different solutions to the problem. Then choose the best solution. The solution chosen should be able to overcome problems in the organization. After selecting the solution, the organization should develop it and then implement it. For example, if it decides to merge the business units it should do so and test the effect of merging the units (Galbraith, 2005).
