Policing Function
There are various perspectives of the policing function present in local, state, and federal organization levels. The essay will focus on different policing roles in the above three levels that must take part in the daily life. The essay will also focus on possible future changes that should be made in order to help the laws plus the issues affecting those levels of government. Different government systems have their functions that must be accomplished as part of the day to day operations.The administration policing forms one of the common government systems that must serve the community in all angles. In respect to local, federal, or within state policing, the administration system is in different ways. Evidence suggests that the federal, state, and local levels establish administration in different ways.
Roles and job responsibilities of administration is different for the state level, federal level, and local authority level. The administration policing provides two types of local agencies that help in the work of law enforcement. The local law enforcement agencies include the police departments and the sheriff’s departments. Although in most cases, people confuse between the sheriffs and police departments, each has different rules and regulations, (Gil, 2012). Activities in both law enforcement agencies focus towards a common thing which is to keep law and order for a healthy environment. Katz and Walker said, “There are just fewer than 18,000 law enforcement agencies in the United States. This includes12, 656 local police, 3,061 sheriff’s departments, 49 state police agencies, 1,376 exceptional police agencies, and 45 federal agencies.”
Local police department
This is one of the administration systems that helps to ensure law and order have taken its course. According to the recent analysis conducted, city police forms the largest number in terms of local police within administration policing system. Due to diversification of duties and responsibilities within local police department, law enforcement officer’s keeps law and order depending on the unit she or he comes from and the type of work offered by the system. One of the main duties of local police departments is to ensure that law and order have been kept in a given place. It ensures that required policing services for the society have taken the right direction and the society feels satisfied with its operations, (Walker & Katz, 2008).Local police departments strongly emphasis on the professionalism in order to helps develop the best environment for the society.
In local police department, officers ensure that the society environment operates free from criminal activities. It also helps deter criminals and punish offenders who go against what the society expects. To get a free dispute domestic environment, the local policing department gives orders to the relevant parties. Patrolling traffic is part of the local police department. The police officers operate within their local jurisdictions that are defined by boundaries where the local police department serves. The local police must ensure that the police officers have managed to reduce the level of criminal activities within their area of operations, (Walker & Katz, 2008).
Sheriff department
Sheriff department is another administration system that ensures activities are and operated in the manner accepted. Sheriff department is as the state law enforcement agencies, and it has a variety of roles and responsibilities that must be accomplished within the set boundaries. Just like the local police enforcement agency, the state agency has its roles and responsibilities that must be focused and completed. The work of state police is to patrol state highways and ensure that high security level has in this area. The sheriff’s plus their deputies must operate within their area of restrictions in order to maintain a high level of security simply because criminal always target state areas.
Their patrols should cover federal routes and state areas for the purpose of keeping security measures at any given time. Apart from providing security and order within the defined areas, the state law enforcement agencies ensure that county jails are effectively, (Gil, 2012). Evidence suggests that the sheriff in the social environment helps people understand what they need to do. Gil (2012) said, “State police officers are with keeping the rural areas, state’s highways, and other areas. The state law enforcement agencies system conducts public relations, criminal investigations, and community initiatives.”
Federal Agencies
Federal Agencies offers two types of law enforcement personnel system that ensures law and order takes the right direction. In federal agencies, there are the investigative enforcement personnel group and the uniformed law enforcement group. The security and safety aspects of the state are under the uniformed law enforcement system. This group mainly focuses on the issue of security within federal land, key government officials, and federal buildings. Security within any of the above category must be maintained at all times of the day. The federal agents must enforce different aspects of law in order to provide given reports and records that may be of use in the court during case hearing, (Walker & Katz, 2008).
Evidence shows that the work of enforcing federal law is of the federal police officer. Some of the core responsibilities of federal police officers are to deal with terrorism, kidnapping activities, and activities of drug smuggling in the society. According to federal law enforcement jobs, (1999-2012) “Any federal law enforcement officer can arrest someone who committed a federal crime. However, the investigation of that crime would be turned over to the agency that is responsible for such matters.”
Future Changes
Globalization and technology development clearly defines who the future changes within different environments. Evidence suggests that without future technology, law enforcement agencies will not manage to accomplish their tasks as expected. In the past, innocent people suffered for mistakes committed by other people by the current technology have enabled use of DNA tests in verifying whose mistake was thus enforcing the law in the right manner. With the introduction of automobile in law enforcement environment, police officers manage to respond to situations much faster compared to days when horses were in use. The system provides accurate measures and efficiency something that should be credited.
The current world of criminal law has different technologies that have allowed provision of services. This means that law enforcement agencies should only focus on critical future changes that make it easy for officers to enforce the law within their operations, (Gil, 2012).In general, all government agencies have something in common and are that of developing technology towards their operations. What is most vital in the current setting is to evaluate what type of technology should be implemented where and on what basis. All the government agencies (local, state and federal agency) focus on development of a healthy environment for society, (Walker & Katz, 2008).
