Program of Study
A Master of Science in nursing degree means more responsibilities and contribution to health care. This is because one must have the ability to provide direction and guidance to other nursing practitioners. Throughout the masters’ program, one gains invaluable knowledge concerning the critical issues in nursing. Through this knowledge, one attains the relevant skills of handling different types of issues in nursing practice (Jasper, 2011). A holder of MSN should also have the ability to formulate appropriate solutions for all kinds of nursing challenges in all situations. This is because the MSN degree equips the practitioner with sufficient problem solving skills (Warner, 2011).
Course Outcomes
Through the MSN program, I have grown as a scholar-practitioner. Firstly, I am now capable of balancing between studies and nursing practice. Although the practice of nursing is highly demanding, I have successfully adapted to the hectic academic schedule of the MSN program. Additionally, I always use my experience from nursing practice to solve scholarly problems where applicable. Integrating the knowledge from the MSN program into nursing practice has also been an excellent milestone for me.
Professional Goals
After earning the MSN degree, I intend to advance my career as professional nursing practitioner. I will achieve this by contributing more towards the enhancement of nursing standards in my current organizations. For instance, I will have sufficient knowledge to guide junior nurses in their day to day practice. The skills and knowledge from the MSN degree program will help me in establishing a unique center of excellence for nursing practitioners. This center will target upcoming nursing practitioners who show commitment and passion towards pursuing a career in nursing.
There are many bright young people who are ambitious about pursuing further studies in nursing. However, the largest percentage of such individuals does not get adequate opportunities to pursue studies in nursing. Through the center of excellence, I will target such people and nurture them for an excellent career in nursing. The center of excellence will also cater for junior nurses. They will benefit in terms of having an excellent foundation for their careers. Through the center of excellence, I will thus contribute positively towards the enhancement of nursing standards in the country. I also intend to use the MSN degree as a platform for participating in the formulation of nursing policies. The technical knowledge from the MSN would be beneficial in drafting policies that conform to the values and principles of nursing practice (Anema, 2009).
Professional Development Plan
The professional development plan will be crucial in terms of enhancing the pursuit of my professional goals. As a nursing practitioner, the professional development plan helps in setting the right priorities. Although all goals are essential for my professional development, it is extremely essential to pursue them in accordance with priorities (Tappen, 2010).
This approach will help me remain in the right professional path. The professional development plan will also help me in setting the right goals. In essence, some professional goals are attainable while others are more or less unrealistic. It is difficult to distinguish between the two without having a professional development plan. The plan will thus assist me in identifying attainable goals. The professional development plan is also essential in terms of professional growth (Goldenberg, 2009). For instance, it will help me in interacting with other nursing practitioners.
