Reality Therapy
Reality therapy is aimed at proposing ideas that are unconventional and not accepted by other disciplines. For example, glassers argue that whatever mistakes were made in the past are not useful now. Also, glassers argue that we can only satisfy our needs now. The first concept is not true. This is because people learn from their first mistakes and avoid making such mistakes in future. The first mistakes are important in improving our lives. This is because they guide us in improving our lives. For example, a person who has been charged in court because of stealing will not repeat the act. This is because the ,mistake he has made has helped him learn. So, the mistakes are important in our current life. The argument can be rated 1 on the scale (Glasser, 2001).
The second statement is some how true. This is because we can only satisfy our needs now, but not in future. We do not know more about the future. For example, one will want to live a good life now because he does not know what will happen in future. The assumption can be rated 5 on the scale.
It is true that Psychiatric drugs have negative side effects both physically and psychologically. Psychiatric drugs affect the brain and damage some cells. The drugs affect sensory cells in the brain and memory. For example, depressants may affect the brain and cause damage. The argument can be rate 8 on the rating scale. The usage of psychiatric drugs should be restricted. People should not be allowed to use the drugs if the doctor knows the side effects. They should be used when necessary. Psychotropic medications cause permanent damage to the nervous system. Also, they cause impairment of the cognitive function. This affects learning. Therapists should identify an alternative therapy to replace the current therapy. The responses from the classmates have helped understand how reality therapy works. I have learned that not all arguments are true and one should make a wise decision. I have learned that though psychiatric medications are useful, they have negative side effects (Glasser, 2001).
