Reducing Crime
Reducing Crime
For several decades, crime has been one of the most situations that affect US. Research shows that the number of criminal activities has increased in the current days compared to the past. This is a significant concern that requires more attention. A number of approaches may be used in reducing criminal activities in the society. During 1940s, the level of criminal activities was lower compared to the current. A tough punishment system was applied making people fear to commit crimes. In order to reduce the rate and level of criminal activities, a much tough deterrence system should come. According to past results, a tough approach pays in the long run simply because individuals tend to fear charges for criminal activities. The system in charge of criminal activities should go back to old ways of charging criminals, (Siegel, 2011).
Community policy is another approach that may help reduce criminal activities in the society. Individuals who commit crimes come from the community. This means that the community knows who commit crimes. It will be possible if the government approaches the community in identifying criminals who are a serious threat to the development of the country. Although the current social life does not allow people interact, to some point people know each other. Community policy will help identify criminals hence develop a free environment that is safe for all. The government should realize that criminal activities results from the fact that most of the young people are jobless or earn low incomes not enough to sustain their needs. It is the work of the government to develop assignments that will increase an individual’s incomes. Through such assignments, the government will afford to trace criminals. Application of the three approaches may develop an effective system for reducing criminal activities, (Siegel, 2011), (Siegel, 2011).
