Research Critique: Perceived barriers for ethnically diverse students in nursing programs. Journal of Nursing Education, 45(7), 247-254 by Abriam-Yago, K., Amara, D., and Yoder, M

The article critic presented is derived from the book, Perceived barriers for ethnically diverse students in nursing programs. Journal of Nursing Education, 45(7), 247-254 by Abriam-Yago, K., Amara, D., and Yoder, M, is a good example of how a research critique can be written. Every presentation of a critique should follow the desired guidelines required by an instructor.  A research critique should also present an in-depth analysis of the content of the subject or the topic. The ideas should be well organized in a clear and logical manner.  Justification of points is necessary with the provision of adequate evidence to support ones points (Burns, & Grove, 2009, p 12).

By reference to the research critique provided, the critic’s topic is on coping and encountering barriers in nursing. The critique emphasizes on the need to have nurses from the minority ethnic group so as to ensure the provision of quality health care.  Proper evidence is given on the major requirements of the topic which includes; language, personnel, academic and cultural needs. The limitation of the needs is also provided such as the   lack of financial support.  This evidence can be found   in the exact   page number according to the requirements of APA format.

Each of these requirements is expounded in their own paragraphs which explain the specific needs. The second topic that the critique deals with is on methodological congruence. On this topic, the he presents the limitation of the study group which according him is unclear.  Contradicting issues are well presented which poses a challenge to the readers. The third topic is on Analytical interpretive preciseness which is clear to the point with a quotation from the text. The fourth topic is on philosophical or theoretical connectedness. It clearly indicates the point of view of the critic.  He finds that there is no connectedness of methodology. Further, the authors of the book have not identified any social process and the themes do not connect.

The critic completes the article with the limitation he has on judging the study.  This is because he does not belong to the minority group. He also finds that the methodology used is biased. The sources of his arguments are well presented under the reference.
