Table of Contents

A research study on the role of spirituality in health care currently gets to be an area of active research. Besides being studied by various scholars like psychologists, theologists, physicians and other professionals have also endeavored to study on the same topic. The studies tend to fall under three key areas coping, mortality and recovery. The health care provider can prepare to address spirituality by understanding how the 3 key areas can be applied to the four group’s category.   The health care provider must learn how to advice group 1(one self)on applying spiritual lessons on coping with their health issues. Furthermore, he should also prepare how to train the group on mortality since sources state regular spiritual practices tend to encourage people to live longer (Puchalski M, 2001). In addition, he could also enlighten them on the issue of recovery which could be done through giving the people encouragements in a bid to wish them quick recovery.

On the second category, (one’s patient) the health care provider should use spiritual encouragements like the biblical verses in addressing the patient’s situation. For example, Isaiah 53:4-5 “By his stripes we get healed” could be used to comfort the ailing patient. As is not enough, he could also offer prayers as a way of giving hope to one’s patient group. The patient’s family could also be comforted by biblical encouragements and sometimes physical support like finances for them to support their patient. One’s colleagues group could also be encouraged with biblical encouragements, which the health care provider got prepared to offer them.  The health care provider can prepare a coping; mortality and recovery spiritual lessons to provide to the groups since spirituality in health care situation gets to crucial for the sick and their families, as well as, their friends.
