Team Work And Multicultural Communication In Multicultural Force
The work force in most organizations has changed for the last three decades. Most companies employ diverse workforce. A diverse workforce is important in any organization as it improves productivity (Tayeb, 1996) .Diversity in the organization helps improve innovations and creative in the organization. Teamwork refers to work done by a team. Team work is important in a multicultural workforce. Team work helps improve productivity in the organization as workers combine different skills. It also helps enhance creativity and innovation in the organization. Researchers argue that team work is not effective in a multicultural workforce. This is because multicultural work force affects team work. First, it is difficulty to achieve the objectives set in a team work as people have different views. Some team members find it difficulty to interact with other team members. This is mostly in team members who are geographically displaced. Some of the team members value face to face interactions and this makes it difficulty to communicate with other members. There are some cultures that value team works while others do not. The difference in opinion affects team work in the organization (Loden& Rosener, 1991).
Communication is vital in the organization. Most organizations do not have good communication channels. This has resulted to poor communication among the employees. Communication is a major challenge in organizations having multicultural workforce. This is because the organizations do not known how to manage diversity and prevent it from affecting communication. Employees in the organization find it difficulty to relate with each other. This is because the employees have poor communication skills. Also, the employees do not respect and appreciate each other. In addition, the employees have different views. This has led to increase in conflicts in the organization. Poor communication in the organization affects team work as members do not have good communication skills. This lowers productivity in the organization. In order to encourage team work and communication in the organization, organizations having diverse workforce should be able to support diversity. They should use diversity training programs to educate employees how to respect each other and appreciate minority employees. This will lead to team work and good communication skills (Jackson & Schuler, 2008).
