Technology in Classroom

How Technology Facilities and Enhance instruction in Classroom

Technology has grown tremendously permuting virtually all areas of life including education. In classroom setting, technology plays a significant facilitating and enhancing instruction. Internet for example plays a significant role in providing teachers and students alike with vital knowledge and information which they share with others in class and thereby facilitating the learning process (Greenfield, 2009). Internet also makes communication between the students and the teachers and among the students themselves easier through applications such as emails and live charts. Such means of communication can enhance cooperative learning in classroom rather than the form of learning where the teacher is the source of all attention.

Teachers can issue instruction to students through this means of communication and students also provide feedback through the same means. Apart from being a communication means technology is also an important research tools. Students can use internet sources to research on issues and topic learnt in class to facilitate better understanding. Computer application such as projectors, video and audio recording also enhance demonstration of concepts and issues in a class setting.

There are concepts that would be difficult to express through narrating or reading and expressing such concepts in classroom settings have been made possible by existence of the above mentioned technologies. Computer applications such as excel and other software, such as geometry construction software, have today proved useful in solving mathematics and scientific problems in classroom. Student can also use various computer applications to process data and report results. These applications are such as excel, access and SPSS. Technologies also enhance creativity and innovation among students in classroom.

Pros and Cons of Using Technology in Classrooms

Use of technology in classroom has various advantages. Technologies such as email and chats have made communication between teachers and students and among the students faster there by enhancing the instructional process (Bull, 2005). Internet has also made it easier for students to access information and research materials which further enhance learning in class. Computer applications such as word, power points and excel have made organization of students work easier and in a way facilitating the learning process.

Projectors and video recording make comprehension of concepts by students easier and other technology assist students in solving classroom problems.Use of technology in class has got disadvantages too. Technology such as internet may be abused by students when they cross perimeters and start accessing other information apart from learning materials.

Communication means such as emails and chats may also turn out to be destructive technologies when they are not used for the right purpose. The internet, chats and emails may turn out to be the greatest source of distraction in classroom rather than playing the role of facilitating learning. Presence of numerous research materials in the internet has a tendency of making student to relax when they handed assignments as many of the students just transfer the materials available in the internet into their papers without even understanding them.

Differences between Wired and Wireless Classrooms

Wired classroom refers to classrooms that use physical cables as a means of accessing the internet and other networks (Warner, 2008). Wireless classrooms on the other hand use wireless technological application which enables the classrooms to have access to data technology without installing the physical cables.
