Time Period Of Story Of A Bad Boy

Story of a bad boy was written in the year 1870 by Thomas Bailey Aldrich. This had happened after Thomas had been sent to Portsmouth foe his college studies. Critics of the book have portrayed the book as the first depiction of realistic childhood in American fiction.

During the time the book was written America was just recovering for the civil war with Russia and it was in the process of reconstruction. It is during this time that major developments were taking place for the purpose of increasing the levels of education in the country where every state in the south had made a commitment to ensure that there was provision of support for the public schools system. It was in the year 1872 that the first public school kindergarten was established in America by Susan Blow. It was also at this period that there was introduction of the civil rights bill which called for introduction of integrated schools.

The social aspect of the country was also developing and changing with various entertainments for the society. Americans were undergoing a new level of amusement where theaters had refined and were beginning to cater for the tastes of the middle class. The entertainment in the theaters was of wide variety and it occurred for long hours of the evening to the night.

Religion was also taking shape with the introduction of various religious institutions such as the Church of Christ, Scientist where the faithful were offered a special Christian faith interpretation. The church became a figure that was unique among the various American denominations that existed, as it sought to portray God’s reality. Patricia U. (1988).
